Oil service schedule

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have an Octavia VRS 245. Got from new. I’m scratching my head over when it needs it’s first oil service. I would have thought it would tell me automatically when it was coming up but I was in the infotainment system yesterday and saw it’s saying “oil change service in 4400 miles or 115 days”. I’m currently on 5000 miles. My confusion is whether that’s telling me that I’ve missed it or it will need a change in another 4400 miles (9400 miles)? This is my first new/modern car so used to seeing this stuff in the manual which just says refer to the display

Welcome.

I take it that at the PDI it got put on Fixed Servicing of 372 days / 9,400 miles from the Variable Servicing it arrived at them with from the factory, and they never asked what you wanted.

Hi. Yeah it looks that way. So I don’t have to worry that I’ve missed an oil service and currently it means that it needs a service in 4400 miles (at 9400 miles like you say). Is it better to have it variable? Can that be changed? Thanks

There are Services and at them are Oil & Filter changes.  There are no just 'Inspection services'.  That is just nonsense from the VW Group.

Now Skoda UK call it Oil & Inspection Services.  Then the additional work the Extended Scope'.

?

When did you get the car, or when was it first registered?

It does not look like you missed a service.

Your car leaves the Factory with Long Life Oil and the first Service / Oil Change can be in 24 months / 18,000-20,000 miles.

The Dealerships are at it resetting to Fixed services.

If you want tell them you never asked for Fixed Servicing and they can do the Oil & Filter service at their expense for being chancers.

Yeah I thought 9400 miles is low, let alone the 4400 miles I was confused about. Just to be sure this 4400 miles will reduce as drive it further right? Just want to make sure I’m reading it right for the future. Got it in Feb. Fresh off the court. Will fixed protect the warranty or makes no difference?

Yes it is counting down the days and counting down the miles.

It depends on whether you want to keep the car, or not. The variable service interval means less hassle with servicing, but it can’t be as good for the car long term as annual ~10,000 mile oil changes.
