Two services for £79

Featured Replies

I purchased an approved used Skoda 4 months ago and paid for the two services for £79. Today I take the car in for a service and they have charged me over £100 for the spark plugs. I argued this cannot be right but they will not budge I cannot find anything on the paperwork to say the plugs are not included.

I guess the service plan will be Oil & Filter only, in most cases they will suggest add-ons. Additional filters and plugs tend to come under an 'inspection'.

They will work on the basis 'If it doesn't say it is included, it isn't'... but did you ask them to change the plugs? If you didn't approve the work, they shouldn't have fitted them... therefore you can't be charged.

It really does depend on what you agreed when you booked it in.

Just found this on the Skoda site, spark plugs are not included.

If you 100% haven't asked them to change the plugs, refuse to pay... if that doesn't work tell them to remove them and refit your old ones (they'll be in the bin)... they might then offer them as goodwill.

@MATT1  When were your Spark Plugs last changed?

2 x Oil & Filter Services and free safety inspection and reports and any updates, if you got that is 'Much Cheapness'.

If you did not ask for Spark Plugs and do not think changing them was Simply Clever then get your money back.

PS

Is this the car that you were not sure if it was a 1.0TSI.?

They must have knocked £5 off the price because it only needed 3 spark plugs!

Yes same car. I have checked all the paperwork and no where does it say plugs are excluded. Should they not provide evidence of this and not just rely on what they are saying.

?

So how many miles has the car done, and how old and when was the last services and what has the car had done in the past?

If you have the Service T&C's for 2 Services for £79 what does it say. ?

2 Minor, or 1 minor and one major.  Neither Minor or Major as they were called included Spark Plugs.

The £249 & then increased to £289 Major Service before 2020 at each 4 years did include Spark Plugs.

The car has done 13000 miles the paperwork says 1 inspection and 1 with extra scope it’s 4 years old this months so should have the plugs. My point is no where  in the paperwork does it say the  plugs are not included and they cannot provide any evidence to prove they are not included. If you pay for two services that is exactly what I expect to get. The supplying dealer admitted they wouldn’t have charged for them which is even more confusing. Just a side note I have used the dealer I used today every year since 1988 and spent thousands with them so much for customer loyalty.

More important is what it says the services are for £79.

If you never asked for Extras like Spark Plugs then get them refunded.

Did it get a Pollen Filter replaced this time?

Was the Brake Fluid changed last time?

It should not have the plugs just because it is 4 years old,

that is a Skoda Recommendation  or Guidelines not a schedule.

I purchased an approved used Skoda last April and took the PCP finance which included 2 services for £79 which I paid for. I took my vehicle to my local dealer yesterday and they charged me over £115 for spark plugs which they insist are not included in the service plan. I looked at my policy and cannot see anywhere that the spark plugs are excluded. My dealer has not given any written evidence to explain their decision. They have told me Skoda do not need to show what's not covered which I find hard to believe. Skoda CS and VW financial who run the service plan are a waste of time and do not really understand the policy they are selling. Anyone thinking of taking this deal as its still available be aware you may not be covered like you think you are.

In my opinion 2 services is exactly that. The website also quotes taking this plan gives you the confidence to budget for the next two services which I now completely disagree with.

Your post yesterday in the Rapid section said over £100.

(Sorry i missed the 'over' yesterday.

Was it over £115 for the Spark Plugs,  (only 3 plugs) others get 4 for £105,

as the Skoda Fixed price Service & Maintenance price for cars 3-10 year old on Fixed Servicing is £105.

With only 13,000 miles on your car you should have been asked if you wanted the spark plugs changed.

Was the pollen filter changed if the car is 4 years old and they serviced to Skoda Recommendations / Guidelines?

Thanks for the reply the plugs were just over £115 and was I told they were needed as the car is now 4 years old as shown in the table above. My argument is that if you pay for 2 services for £79 then this should be all you pay over the 2 years it's misleading in my opinion the website quotes you can be confident that you can budget for the next two services which is not correct as I have paid more. Skoda CS and VW financial who sell the service plan don't have a clue about the product they are selling. It's a shame that I have been using the dealer for over 25 years who have recently been taken over by Lookers so much for customer loyalty. I'm just trying to warn anyone thinking of taking out this plan what to expect. I have also looked at my service plan contract and nowhere does it say in the exclusions about spark plugs.

what does the 1  show next to the '£79 for 2 services'     What is in the Small print / T&C's.?

Why not £105 for the spark plugs being supplied and changed during servicing?

?
WILL THEY WANT YOU TO PAY FOR THE BRAKE FLUID CHANGE AND THE CAM BELT DONE AT THE NEXT SERVICE?

Hi mate, I have this plan also. My booklet states the services are extended service & extended service with scope. These don't cover all filters, plugs or brake oil.

Also, if you have Mot protect you still have to pay for the price if the MOT

What does it say by footnote 1?

On the current similar offer for the Fabia it says:

2 Service plan covers first 2 consecutive services limited to 1 x Oil Service and 1 x Oil and Inspection Service with pollen filter.

Skoda have always been quite coy with itemising the service requirements, rather than packaging them, so when they refer to 'a service' it normally only means an oil and filter change - https://www.skoda.co.uk/owners/servicing-maintenance-fixed-price

The 1 means 1x inspection and oil change and 1 x inspection with extended scope

Clearly the dealership were making sure doing this service was worth their while.

They are are at it.  Skoda UK know they are 'At it'.

So they should have asked if you wanted plugs changed & if so charged £105.

The Pollen Filter is £35 extra.

Next Year extras to pay if you want done as well.  Brake Fluid £65 & Cam Belt £500 if doing it on a low mileage car

The contents of an Oil & Inspection and Extended Scope are set out fairly clearly on Skoda's website and don't include much.

Why would you assume that they include items like spark plugs that Skoda itemise and price seperately?

I think the lesson here is to read the small print properly when you buy things, rather than make assumptions.

They shouldn't have changed the plugs and then charged you without your prior authorisation to do the work but that's an entirely separate issue to whether they're included in a plan that said it covered Oil & Inspection / Extended Scope.

Well said and well summarized.

Its a main dealer. Did you really expect £79 to cover everything when paying full price for a service also doesn't include spark plugs. They are a business at the end of the day and will do anything to get more money.

When mine went in for its first service with me they asked me if I wanted my spark plugs changed at 38k 4 years but told them no. I did them myself at home in 20 mins.

Just £79 &

Oil & Filter service times 2, and the look see and report, and look harder the 2nd service than at the first one. 'Extended Scope!'.

Free Vacuum & Wash,

the Road Test, the diagnostic check, and Update Enhancements,  Report.

@MATT1

If you just say which Skoda Dealership charged you over £115 to fit 3 spark plugs while carrying out your service that was Pre Paid i will try to be sure they get the 'Good Publicity' they deserve by coming up in the Top Ten of a Google search.

The Directors, Dealer Principal & Skoda UK will be grateful of the publicity they receive, so much so they might refund you the over £115.

There is the Briskoda Dealers Section in which you could post a review.

Lookers are an abysmal company. I used them in Guildford on two occasions, the last being when I was told I need a cambelt change at a cost of £700…. The Service Advisor then argued that I didn’t know what I was talking about after I’d pointed-out the EA888 engine doesn’t have a cambelt; she then stomped away, calling me a f#£king wa&ker, just loud enough for me to hear. But it was the 8 week wait for an emergency appointment and (now chargeable) courtesy car which spelled the end for me.
I suggest you think about using Wheelbase in Hersham; that’s where I’ll be taking the 280 in future.

My point really is that Skoda should be more transparent in whats included when you buy these plans. Very misleading advertising and nowhere on my contract does it say spark plugs not included.

I would just like to update on the above. Skoda Have now agreed with me that the advertising for the £79 for two services could and should have been clearer. They could not provide me with any document to say the spark plugs are not included and have agreed to look at the website. They also offered me a full £115 refund for the spark plugs.
