Where's all the Adblue?

Featured Replies

It's not very often that I have to buy it but my normal port of call, Screwfix, isn't showing any on stock at anywhere local.

Any recommendations for somewhere to get it from where the price is realistic too?

Not sure what Screwfix were/are charging, but I tend to use Toolstation as an equivalent outlet for hardware: Redex AdBlue 10L | Toolstation

The reason for using Screwfix is that the Toolstation price you've just quoted is twice as much. The minor problem is Screwfix don't have any! 😠

Possibility that Screwfix are adjusting their prices 'cos of an error, stock may return at a higher price? How long has it been 'super-cheap'? Or is the Toolstation price a lot more than the going rate?  Doesn't seem that much to me, £2.20 per litre? How long would 10l last?

The Screwfix price has always been decent. Aldi has been even cheaper hence my 'amazement' at what it is now.

Wonder if much of it is made in Ukraine?

My local GSF Car Parts had some yesterday, give your local branch a call.

Part number on the invoice is GSF982AA4200

I had difficulty with that part number online so called a local branch to be told they had none available for collection today. The price would have been just under £18 though.

Yeah, it seems to have been removed offline, guessing there is a supply issue. My local branch had an entire pallet of it in the counter in 5L & 10L.

I found a supplier online that wasn't too expensive so ordered 2 X 10l. Then I saw that it said they were both going to be on back order so ditched that idea.

Halfords at £20 seems to be the least problematic and at least they have some in stock - allegedly.

There was talk about it going into short supply just before xmas. I never heard a specific reason. I'm wonderring if whatever caused that concern has finally happened.

adblue is made using urea.

urea is a nitrogen based chemical.

nitrgoen production uses natural gas extract.

nitrogen is also used for agri fertiliser.

fertiser has has been hitting a supply issue for over 12months  now, so pre Ukraine, but the situation regarding gas supplies since Ukaine started is going to have a massive impact on nitrogen production and all the stuff that needs it - farming especially as Ukrainian grain is of such high importance for global supply. therefore it also makes sense that adblue is going to be harder to get and more expensive..

The shortage was flagged last year before Russia invaded Ukraine.  Then we are where we are now.

Perhaps we need to have a national campaign to collect Urea from P like Harris and other tweed firms to.

I would be happy to contribute. UP to 20 grams of urea in a good P.

Some would say many of us have been P'ing on diesels for years for both performance and economy.

In the UK diesel fuel can now be more than 10% more expensive than petrol, probably about seven times more expensive per mile than EV and now with AdBlu becoming even more expensive the running costs of diesels is taking a double wammy.

Fortunately by 2015 1.4 TDI does not use ADBlu and economy is not what I hoped as sometimes not even hitting 60 mpg which my 0.9 TCE Clio gets close to, don't think there is more than about 5% difference in the mpg and no AdBlu.

I read the VW stable cars have a run immobiliser if the AdBlu level falls become the minimum level and presumably you cannot fool the car by using another liquid like water or P ?

If owners need to put their diesels with SCR off the road so be it.   Let Grant Shapps and Boris make plans to have it sorted out by 2025 or when ever.     There is a war going on in Europe but Britain has trade deals that can fix everything.       This is just something else to increase inflation and to add to shortages.   Those pouring sunflower oil into their diesel car tank now might have to go back to derv.  They have no Adblue worries though.

you feel free to p in your adblue tank or top it up with water. let us know how how u get on.

My Ford Connect tells me engine won't start if the Adblue runs out so I would imagine most late models will be the same?

As for the predicted 170% increase... I reckon its closer to 3-400%?

I usually got mine from Tesco at £10 for 10l, Morrisons, Sainsbury were £12 or so. Early January I think, Tesco had no 10l, only 5l bottles at £7.50 ish and I've not seen any since. Last lot was 2x 10l from carparts4less online - collect from ECP - £26......at the moment they want £20 for 5l - £4 /L, greenchem at £25 for 10l or a bulk 20l for £60.

Hopefully I can't get to work sometime soon 😀

I was going to get some from Halfords at £20 but popped into Asda beforehand and found some at £8 for 5L. I had what I thought was the last 3 but they said there was more 'in the back'.

Result.

The Insignia my Grampa has is the same as well I think. Throws a tantrum if there's no AdBlue.

It's one of the "new" ones, so the 2.0 CDTI is less likely to bomb itself compared to the auld ones he had. He never keeps a car for long mind, trades in at 2.5-3 years old, before the MOT. :)

Heads up.... 10l @ Tesco £18.50

So £2.50 more expensive than Asda then! 😜

As I'm not paying for it then yes but it's been a while since Tesco had some.

Our Fuel card isn't accepted at Asda
