Axle stand points guidance please

Featured Replies

Sorry, new here so forgive me for being an idiot.

I'm fitting Grayston Spring Assistors to a 2014 Octavia 4x4 estate (Tour De France rather than Scout) and want to use an axel stand rather than just the jack. I've searched on here and found some suggestions but want a second opinion...my plan is to use the OEM jack on the sill weld as if changing a wheel...would it be okay to place an axle stand under the round bit (circled red) which is a few inches further underneath and slightly towards the back of the car from the jacking point (indicator arrow circled yellow). Would this be okay? If not where? I've wrecked a sill on a car before many years ago so being a bit cautious. Picture taken from near side read jacking point. Any help is much appreciated.

Yes that is what I use its the factory lifting point and there are some VAG rubber adaptors, Audi TT ones I think that will clip in there for use on a 2 post garage lift.

Please tell me that you are fitting the Grayston helper springs and not those rubbish rubber doughnut things, if you were planning to fit them then dont even bother jacking up the vehicle.

OK thanks for your swift reply, much appreciated.

I'm going with the rubber inserts for now, its a cost over use thing. Basically I have one return journey to make to France with a caravan: The outfit sags ever so slightly too much for me to risk over the ferry ramps etc. I tow in England and it's okay but it's only just okay...so I'm being a little over cautious maybe, but if the rubber inserts give me half an inch I'll be a little more comfortable. So, for £30 im giving them a go versus buying the auxilliary springs at £160 and getting someone to fit them for another £100. I dont mind having a go putting the rubbers in, but I'm not up for undoing shocks/taking springs off etc.

The spring g assistors will work just fine for what you want.  We had them on our 2007 4x4 to help stiffen the back and stop the car sagging when loaded with a 4 bike rack on the towbar and the boot full.

They did the job well for 10 years or so for minimal outlay.

Beware when fitting them that it can be hard work and need a fair bit of force.  Make sure the car is well supported, heat the assistors with boiling water to make them a bit more flexible and get them well covered in lots of washing up liquid them be prepared to battle to get them in!

Thanks for the feedback. I figured for the money they were worth a try!

No idiocy involved in this question at all. 👍

There is scare information on jacking points and axel-stand positioning points, other than the sill jacking points.

I've been trying to find a picture of the underside of a 2013-2020 Octavia to work out where the axel stand points are with the plastic underbody panels in place.

The donuts will do what you are asking of them, if they dont want to go in then release the lower shock absorber mounting and lower the spring pan as you would to change the springs, no spring compressor needed.

I used to have a trade account with Grayston Engineering, the helper springs were only about £30 but that was back in 2005/6 and they were very simple to fit, they stayed on the vehicle for 14 years and were scrapped with it, I simply didn't have the time to remove them and now I fit uprated springs having learned all the part numbers from this forum and Carlston in particular.
