Code P25B3 - Turbo wastegate stuck open

Featured Replies

Car is in limp mode and I have this dreaded management code.

Will the whole turbo need replaced or can the wastegate/actuator rod be replaced individually?

Its a 2020 1.5 TSI with 69k miles.

Hi @gm73 - I had this issue a few years ago with my VRS, which threw a 'Start/Stop Error' code on the maxidot screen - and went into limp mode.

I took it to a VAG specialist down my road who plugged in a laptop, ran VCDS, and manually opened and closed the actuator, which they thought might have got stuck due to heat. It didn't necessitate a new turbo or actuator 😀

In the (hopefully unlikely) event that the actuator is broken or faulty, I believe that only that needs to be replaced - rather than the whole turbo. It is tricky to get to, but not an engine-out job at all.

Usually that is the case with the electronic Mahle (et al) servo motors. Version 05E145701H and J appear to use "normal" servo motors with replacements listed in ETKA.

05E145701K appears somewhat different. Etka doesn't list a part although that doesn't mean a specialist or the aftermarket definitely will not offer some solution. Worth a call or visit.

To be honest I've not seen that style actuator before. But then I do run 5 years behind the time with car purchases.

The mechanic did indeed manually open and close the actuator. It worked okay for about 20 minutes then went back into limp mode. Apparently it's an issue with an internal part of the turbo so a whole new unit was neccesitated. So new turbo supplied and fitted for £890.

Now onto the clutch.

Eesh, sorry to hear that! I'm not familiar with the 1.5 TSi's turbo itself, but hopefully it's cheaper than the IS20 unit in the 2.0 VRS... Glad fitted and hopefully will have no more issues with it going forward.

Clutch is another story, but hopefully less than the VRS in parts.

with your car being a 2020 model, wouldn't it have been a warranty job?

I'm having a similar issue which flagged up durk g a stage 1 tune. Will get it checked and confirmed this week. Hoping it's actuator or minor and not needing a new turbo.

It's a Private Hire taxi. I had done 70k miles when this happened. Just out of warranty and Skoda weren't very helpful with goodwill as, although it's been serviced independently every 8k miles and uploaded to their portal it wasn't dealer serviced. Even with goodwill I have paid less than Skoda doing the job.
