1.5 TSI timing belt interval

Featured Replies

Does anyone have the mileage interval change for the cambelt on the 1.5 TSI (It's a 2020 registration).

I'm sure I read it was 100k or 5 years.

I'm hoping so as the car is on 70k and if it's 60k I'm going to have to play cam belt roulette until it hits 80k as I won't have the money for it until then.

Cheers.

Do you play the Lottery?

According to Skoda UK the "recommended" interval is 5 years, but according to VW and the Skoda factory it's either 120,000km or "lifetime".

Thios topic has been discused on here ever since I owned my first Mk3 in 2016 and has always provoled much discussion but no conclusion since the recommendations between country importaers and manufacturers are so inconsistent.

Don't think anyone here has ever reported a snapped or damaged belt in all that time though...?

The Skoda Workshop manual states 240,000km for an inspection, then inspect every 30,000km for the 1.4 TSI engine.

This is the same for the water pump belt at the other end of the engine.

@gm73Will maybe let us know what Henrys or Arnold Clark quotes.

So not a Euro 6 1.4 TSI, a 1.5 TSI ACT so a different matter.  The belt of these will last their life.

If the fail that is their life.

So the earliest 1.5 TSI ACT in the Skoda's was in 2017.  Before in other VW Group models.

We will see eventually how long the tensioners are good for.

VW seem to have designed an engine without too much though to the future servicing and timing belt replacement.

If it is going to be over half a day's hours of a competent tech or fitter then there is going to be a bit of a wait to get cars in for the job in some areas.

..........

1.4 TSI & 1.5 TSI's discussed here also TDI's which is a separate kettle of fish, .

I believe I could get it changed for around the £500 mark in my local garage, especially if I dont get the water pump changed. The sticking point is that he will need the special tool that the Skoda dealers have which costs around £1k. He won't buy that tool because he is unlikely to change the belt on another 1.5 TSI ACT as I'm his only customer with a car with that engine. There is the possiblity he could perhaps "borrow" the tool for a fee from Skoda.

For my previous Octavia - a 2015 1.6 TDI CR - I had to call Skoda customer service and was told 5 years or 140k for that car as it had the "long lasting parts".

Independents are going to be getting plenty 1.5 TSI ACT,s coming in and will be buying the tool.

It will pay for it's self once they do a few jobs.

This is just the start of the Audi, Skoda, SEAT & VW,s with the engines needing the job done.
