1.0 tsi - cold start juddering

Featured Replies

Hello! I’m experiencing an issue in my 2016 Mk.III, as I was wondering if anyone has had the same issue.

Starting this winter, the car has developed a judder. It only happens immediately after a cold start, and in 1st gear. Whenever releasing the clutch, the car feels judders and feels like it’s going to stall; I often have to depress the clutch again in a hurry to stop it from stalling.

it does not happen in any other gears, and it disappears after a couple of minutes.

I initially thought it was could be a clutch issue, but the fact that it only happens during cold starts and disappears a couple of minutes later, plus the fact that it’s only an issue in 1st gear, makes me think it might be something on the engine side. Maybe a sensor give funny? Possibly carbon buildup on the intake valves?

I remember that 1.5 TSIs had a reputation for similar behaviour from now, but the 1.0 TSI doesn’t. The car is now 6 years old, has just under 50k miles, and has always been serviced in time. I’ve never had the slightest issue with it - 6 years of exemplary service.

Thank you!

Has the servicing included the 3 spark plugs changed @40,000 miles or since?

Hi! Yes, it did. The spark plugs were changed back in August last year - around 43k or so.

Skoda Uk's recommendation / guidelines for the Cam Belt change is at 5 years.

Not difficult, just needs the locking tool.

Personallyif the 1.0 TSI was playing up and i use E10 95 Unleaded i would put in a tank of E5 97 or 99 min and see if it feels any better if it is serviced properly, good plugs in still at the right gap and a clean air filter is fitted.

Thanks! I’m going to book it to have it looked at it next week. It’s just that it’s the first time anything is not quite right in 6 years, and it’s a novelty!
