Rear Fog light issue in Euro zone

Featured Replies

hi all. I recently saw posts about altering a UK Superb to comply with eu regs concerning the rear fog light. I’m about to buy a UK Superb but live in france. I’ve already re registered two uk cars but luckily they both have twin fog lights. The post I saw didn’t seem to be complete. Has anyone made this conversion ?

Welcome.

As well to ask in the Superb section and say what year of car you are getting.

Do you not simply by the correct tail light unit for fitting to give you the fog light on the offside in France and then have it wired to work?

Hi so I’ve not chosen the car yet so it could be a MK1 , 2 or later. Depends on price. But in general is there an easy low cost way to solve this ?

Andy

I had my Superb CT'd in France last week. It is a late 2019 model so it was its first CT here in France. (having been registered in France since 2020)

I didnt modfiy anything and the car passed the CT and no notes of the "rear fog" on wrong side noted.

The CT tester even fitted headlight deflector stickers for me, to pass the CT front lights test.

So the "do nothing option" worked.

I am in 86 Vienne

Good Luck

Hi yes that sounds about right - and I’d have 2 months to sort it if it failed. My chap also just fits the stickers - although some Superbs alter easily via the sat nav I’ve been told - anyway I won’t worry too much. I just woke at 3am and it came to me. Gotta pay the duty though 🙁. Thanks for coming back to me though. We are in 24 near Nontron.

Maybe a daft question, but why not buy a LHD car in France. Avoids conversion, and much easier to drive on French roads.

Hi. So if you google it you’ll find hardly any cars for sale of this model in france or even Euro and they are way more expensive with way more miles on the clock and in bad condition.

Not a daft question at all.

The prime reason being "Price".

New car prices in France are very high compared to UK.

Used car prices are astronomical.

I bought my 2019 Superb Est in the UK in 2020. Before Brexit.

(10,000 euros cheaper than French 12 month old car prices)

I have driven RHD cars in EU for over 30 years (HM Forces) so the RHD car in Europe scenario isn't a problem for me.

Due to Brexit....I won't be able to bring a car into France from UK  when I need a replacement. Due to post Brexit High import duty charges. Making it potentially non viable on cost grounds.

Brexit the Gift that keeps on giving

So My next car will be a LHD, probably sourced from Belgium, Holland or Germany.

Why not buy a car from a neighbouring country?  I thought the great thing about this magical EU that remoaners salivate over, is you can trade cheaply with other member states?

Why contemplate buying a RHD car from the UK when you can just as easily buy a LHD from Belgium, Holland or Germany? Are they more expensive than the UK too?  I know car prices in Ireland are extortionate.
