Anti Corrosion Warranty Repair has rusted again!

Featured Replies

Hello there,

I’m looking for any advice from you knowledgeable forum gurus on the best way to deal with an issue on my first Skoda car. This is my first post and it’s a wee bit long winded so please read on and hit me with any opinions or advice 😁

So, I recently bought my first Skoda.
A very nice 2016 Octavia 4WD DSG VRS Estate (Diesel). I’ve owned the car for about 6 weeks and yesterday noticed a small area of surface rust on near side sill where it meets the wheel arch. This wasn’t there when I bought the car. It’s like an area  maybe an inch or so across has just flaked off and exposed an area below which while solid has surface rust. Upon inspection it is obvious there has been a previous repair. Just paint no serious corrosion (yet) and no sign of any filler or anything . So I checked the service history as I remember seeing an anti-corrosion warranty repair mentioned. There was indeed a repair carried out by a Skoda dealer at 32000 miles back in June 2018 under the anti corrosion warranty. This was 5 1/2 years and 40k miles ago. But it seems obvious to me the repair wasn’t up to standard you would expect and has now failed. It’s quite obvious there has been surface corrosion below the paint which has resulted in the “flaked paint” and exposed metal.

I’m thinking Skoda should be fixing this at no cost to me as their warranty repair has failed.

I haven’t contacted them yet as I hear they are notoriously bad with anti corrosion warranty stuff.

Does anyone have any opinion on what I have described?? Would you agree their (Skoda) warranty repair should last way longer than 40k miles in Sunny Scottish weather 😁 and therefore they should repair this again (hopefully properly this time)???

And any advice on best way to approach this would be appreciated. Go to dealer first or straight to Skoda UK. Unfortunately the dealer is 50 odd miles away!!

Thanks in advance

It will be interesting just how you get on.

If Skoda Approved the Warranty Repair for corrosion and then who did it.

Was it the Main Dealerships bodyshop or was the job farmed out.   An Approved VW repairer.

Was it the Corrosion Warranty because a panel had a hole, or was it the Paint within the 3 year paint warranty.

Thanks for your reply Rooted.

Skoda approved the anti corrosion warranty repair and the work was carried out my a Skoda dealership in Dundee - Specialist cars. It was at 32000k and the car was 2 years and 4 months old at the time. So the 3 year paint bit I would assume. I can see where the paint has been rubbed down around the area so doesn’t strike me as a replacement sill or wing.

Thats all the info I have at the moment as this happened before I owned the car.

I can’t see them covering it, the second part of the corrosion warranty only covers inside out perforation but they were very good with owners of Octavia 1U estates which had very bad problems with the tailgate.

@CTvrs  Skoda Specialist Cars Dundee part of the John Clark Motor Group do not have a Bodyshop.

So the warranty work was not done there, but it might have been done at another John Clark facility.

Pretty near John Clark MINI & BMW.  I know it well.

This.

Thats exactly the standard I would expect of a paintwork warranty repair from Skoda!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

At 8 years old is your vehicle still covered under the paintwork warranty?

How are you going to insist on anything when you have no contract with them?

What random people on the internet might think will have no bearing on any claim you may submit.

Thanks that’s good to know.

I doubt Skoda would cover the cost of your repair.

We once owned a Ford, had a bodywork corrosion warranty repair done within the manufacturers warranty period when it was 2 years 10 months old, the rust came through again 10 months later, I took it back again & the dealership said their repair was only covered up until their warranty period ended when the car was 3 years old, wouldn't do anything about it. At the time they even told me that they'd replaced the effected body panel, too. Which they obviously didn't, just sanded the rust down & sprayed straight over the top again.

That's dealerships for you.

Mother of Crasher bought a brand new Festa in 1979 to replace the 78 which was falling to bits just out of warranty. These were both Dagenham built 1300S models, all others were Spanish. In early 1981 I started learning to drive, in a Golf 1 1.5 which was like a tank compared to a tin can with the Festa. Later that year I passed and started to use the car to go to college, one day when closing the tailgate the rear window popped out at the bottom as the lower flange had rotted away without a sign externally. It was just 2 years old and the Ford dealer didn’t want to know. We got shot and bought a 1970 Beetle which was immaculate… and then a 1972 which was a bit rusty as post 1970 bugs tended to go. My friend’s mother bought a 1979 Golf 1 and by 1981 when we went to the same college, it had holes in the wings and sills, how times have changed.
