It's probaly been asked before lads but, how do I disable the annoying seat belt warning "ding - ding - ding" thing with my VAG-COM? :confused:

I've managed to disable the light but not the noise via. vag-com.

You can disable it by unplugging the loom from the seatbelt harness under the seat, however, there is some confusion over wether the air bag will deploy if the car thinks the seat is empty.

IIRC the bongs aren't just seatbelt related, I thought they were checks of different systems.

And putting the seatbelt on does stop the bonging :P

IIRC, another fix was to permanently short the seatbelt switch, although this would suggest that all the air bags would deploy rather than just the relevant ones.

Top stuff Eddy, your the man.

1-Try changing country settings (although clock, speed/distance units, etc all change)

2-Remember to fasten your belt as soon as you sit down, then start up.

3-Fasten the seatbelt on an empty seat. Then sit down and start up.

(lecture mode on)

Make sure you have a valid donor card and formal will and that no-one is going to mourn over you. (no sense in wasting perfectly good heart, liver, kidneys, corneas, bones...!)

Needless to say but you really should be wearing the belt - without it you have a much greater chance of becoming a slobbering vegetable in the event of a moderately bad crash(I've seen people after accidents who are just like that). Of course you might get lucky and just die.......

It seems that Phil had a problem getting rid of the chime but it worked fine on mine and I know of another Octavia that successfully disabled the chime.

I stopped my bing bong ping noise by fastening my seat belt too. Coincedence?

I wouldnt like my airbag to deploy into my eye socket in the event of a front impact, so I wear my seatbelt. Meeting an airbag apparently kills you dead.

Not true, my stepdad had a drivers side front to drivers side front collision on a NSL road in his Focus RS whilst not wearing a seatbelt, the airbag deployed, other than mild concussion and a few bruises he had no real injuries.

However he does now wear his seatbelt when driving.

There will always be exceptions, but generally, backed up by U.S. statistics, failure to wear a seat belt in the event of an airbag deployment can be fatal. As can sitting to close to the steering wheel. This is due to the explosive device that deploys the airbag.

Anyway, this isn't helping stop the pinging noise

There is no pressure switch in the seat. Infact no one is sure if the airbags are deployed even if no one is sat in the car - perhaps we need a voulenteer?

Disconnecting the loom could work perfectly if airbags are deployed regardless of seat belts.

Disconnecting the loom could work perfectly if airbags are deployed regardless of seat belts.

The other option is to short the loom so that it thinks the seatbelt is fastened, then it doesn't matter if the airbag deployment relies on this or not. I personally don't believe it does as most seats based on the car platform that I have seen don't have the seat belt connection loom.

Basically check the existing softcoding of your instrument cluster and then take the first 2 digits of the code as a 2 digit number. Deduct 2 from that number and that is the new soft coding you require. Vagcom doesn't get much easier than that.

Be sure to keep a note of the existing number so you can always revert back should you encounter problems.

Yes. There's a 2 wire connector going to the seat belt connector under the seat. It's mentioned in the thread I linked to.
