A5086 Egremont to Cockermouth (West Cumbria)

Featured Replies

15 miles of superb driving!

Uphills

Downhills

Twisty bits

Hairpin bends

ahhh... I remember it well ;)

That brings back memories. Used to drive that road a lot when I worked down at Sellafield, had a 16V Citroen BX at the time which was a pretty good car for that road:thumbup:

Neil

yes i rather enjoy that road, Did a run at 1.00 one night to fetch someone from cockermouth, joined at frizington and didn't see another car. Vary fun. Sadly I now work at Barrow so don't use it much.

Thats a road I use when i want a quick blast on my bike..............and if i'm enjoying myself i'll continue on to ravenglass and onwards as thats a fantastic road.

We're talking Corney Fell if you head much further past Ravenglass. I still can't get over the way the Furby pulls up the hill as you head away from the main road :D :D :D

I once came along it, from Cockermouth to Egremont, in a Nova 1.5 TD and managed to do the full journey in 5th gear!

SWMBO couldn't believe it ! (she was in the car with me, at the time).

Haven't tried 6th gear in the Leon, yet.

Watch out for sheep on here - I hit one. What a mess of the Nova saloon I was driving at the time. Fortunately, for Mr. Sheep, I killed it so no suffering.

Another thing to watch out for is this is a Sellafield 'ratrun' - you have been warned! :thumbdwn:

I know that much, but fortunately I'm never on it at kicking-out time!

OK if you are heading in the same direction.

I once made it from Duddon Bridge to the other junction, many years ago, in 10 minutes in an Escort RS 1600i. Those days are long gone. It takes me at least 20, now.

Ah, the old "grid-to-grid" time trial... ;)

That was when I was having coffee with a girl from Ulverston, so was over Corney alot! ;)

I used to live in Workington and work in Broughton-in-Furness.... so I know Corney 'quite well' too ;)

I don't like going over in the Leon, as it is a wide car and for some reason most people drive the route in the middle of the road! :finger:

need to try it in a 'Biza Cupra, Fella ;)...not got the fat a$$ and holds tighter than a Nun in the Ghost-train :):)

The road surface is a bit chewed up with the big tyres of the Leon!! :P

Leons certainly chew through tyres.. :)my old Biza had 205 wide tryes on, so it had a 'healthy' footprint on the road.. mind you, you do have to be careful you dont over inflate the wider tyres.. really strips the rubber off in double quick time... :(

I found out recently when I went for the MOT - 4 new tyres!!

lol... dont tell me you over inflated them ? ........

It was cheaper than new suspension, to improve ride quality.... ;)

couple of slabs in the boot.... get that a$$ lower :):)
