Cupra Bushes

Featured Replies

How many people have fitted the solid Cupra rear wishbone bushes themselves?

How did you get the bushes in and out and the arms back in place?

Thanks

There is an official VAG tool to do this...

When i had mine done @ awesome, they took the console off, put it in a vice then used a big hammer

Only problem with using a big hammer is if your not carefull you can bend the console as its only aluminium.

Propper tool...

Ross , will you still have access to the tool after you leave Skoda ?

i've got the bushes , but no tool and i don't trust Skoda to do it

Yes mate, the tool is mine.

I'm waiting for my cupra bushes to come in - hopefully I can make a workable tool using some pipe, a welder and a lathe.....

Good Luck!

I do but its not a single tool. They are parts of a general press/puller kit and totalled up around £300 iirc.

It is possible yes, as long as you get the correct thread for the stud. M12 1.50 pitch iirc.

When i'm back at work i'll measure the diameter of the part that actually pushes the bush out, its quite important that this piece is the right size so the bush comes out and goes in properly.

That would be useful information to have on the forum for future use. :)

I was thinking that socket with the correct O.D. would be the thing to do the pushing and M12 1.50 sounds about right for the bar !

The socket would have to be huge though..lol

stupid question..... what will the difference be once the cupra ones are fitted?:o

Tightens up the steering and suspension giving a more solid feel, also they dont fall apart.

thanks:)

As a professional Ross you may frown on this but is there any scope for making up a removal tool ? :o

i'm allready in the process of making one, it will be available for freedom members to borrow:)

The bushes are great. Nice car in them pics Ross. ;)

bush O/D is 62mm

Ross, any chance of you measuring up the tool and posting a little diagram? It would make life infinitely simpler!

Cheers Mate

Yep will do when i'm back in at work.

I made a tool, turned a bit on a lathe, about 0.5mm smaller than bush od with a thread up the middle and then used a bit of studding with a washer and nut on the other end, through that hole shown so as not to elongate the thread on the arm when pulling the bush. the smae tool with another large washer then feeds the new bush back in.

The last pair took about 2 hours from start to finish.

Alex

I have a hand made tool which Teflon Tom has at the moment. Only problem with it is that it needs a threaded bar of the right thread pitch.

Alex!

You have a proper car!

Do the bushes wind in and out fairly easily then?

Not massively corroded and stuck to the aluminium?

come on - first person to post up a diagram with measurements of a DIY tool gets a mystery prize!
