Drive shaft bang!

Featured Replies

was coming off a set of lights today, and pulled away after about 10 years something went bang... maneged to roll it into a safe place...

I presumed with the fact that my mum was with green flag i thought it was a policy on the car and not the person turned out i wasnt covered as i was not my mum! had to walk across the road to tesco's and buy a policy at 1 this morning! got someone to tow me to holbrooks skoda will be goin there 1st thing tomorow morning.

found out it was the drive shaft!! it could of broke last weekend!!! or next! the only time i need to actually drive to london this weekend as i'm going to an event on friday night!

any ideas on cost is i'm going to have to use my student loan to pay for the repairs. and i'm going to need a car to get us to london on friday... would it be possible to get a 2 day test drive or something?! while my car is poorly on the side of the road. do skoda do loan cars for a few days? as i'm only 18 i cant think of any hire cars that can do it. or the drive shaft to be repaired quick enough for friday morning...:( :(

Awwwww Leon :(

I am sorry, but I don't know anything about Drive Shafts, but I hope you get it sorted soon.

train - expencive - bus nope - hitch hiking.... being murdered! i only just filled the car up aswell! got two new front tyres:mad: :(

Do you know what the extent of the damage is (and also the cause). I'd be concerned that if something caused it to break, that just replacing the drive shaft may result in it going again!

Hopefully nothing too expensive :)

Chris

Feeling for ya.

The power of the 2.0 strikes again!

I assume you were giving it a bit of go, to break the drive shaft as I would have thought you would have heard a problem earlier if a bit was loose.

Hope whatever went it hasn't damaged too much else when it broke :(

it's not that big a job to replace the driveshaft, tbh

I would be more concerned with damage to the diff/gearbox myself that the replacing of the drive shaft itself.

i'd hazard a guess that you've broken the outer cv joint on the right hand side!!!!! i did that to mine going round a rounabout sideways near carmarthen

Leon's car had a 70,000 mile sevice about a week ago.

Is this something they should have picked up on?

no, not really... unless the driveshaft is cracked on literally hanging off, there's no resaon to check them

well the actual drive shaft on the right hand side needs replacing, its cracked or something. 339 for the part and labour the part is 218 including vat i think. they said it was the 1st drive shaft they have had to fix on a fabia, never had that problem... wont be fixed until tuesday so its sat at the dealers... :( nothing else seems to be wrong.

i rolled down the hill descreetly! no one noticed! :(

ah... i thought it would be the right hand one:rolleyes:

it's because it is longer than the other one and has more 'flex' than the other...

did you not try getting one form a breakers yard??

S/Hand will have been about 1/3 of the cost, as its a rare failure & with the number of fabias falling off the road it should have been easy to source, also something any small independent garage could have fitted, again a lot cheaper than the dealer

the only thing is, the 2.0 models are quite a rare find for a breakers yard... but iirc the driveshafts are the same as the tdi model

nah!! didnt cross my mind my friends have maneged to help me out as i'm always taxi for them so the cost will be a little less... just odd how no ones seen a drive shaft go on a furby..and esp if its the same as a tdi one!

Jason has, he was only running 220 bhp though :)

You could have considered Skospares in Poole, the details would have came through with a search. They are a breaker specialising in Skoda bits and they have plenty of stock!
