Installing Nokia CK-7W

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I posted my first question earlier this evening. I had an answer within an hour and i had done the job (installed symphony) in the next 10 minutes ! Thankys guys !

I have got a Nokia CK-7W kit lying around the house. I want to install it. I really dont need the cradle as i understand that it has a bluetooth whihc will work for me. So my question is what cabel/connector do i need to route the kit through the symphony speakers. And morever, is it compatible ? How big is this job ? The reason is that local garages tend to rip off unsuspecting shool-run mums !

School-run-fabia ;)

An Audio/Stereo Loom is normally an optional extra I think. Not much though (£10 maybe).

Hi, I removed the glovebox lid and glovebox and removed the radio.

Connected the Bat +ve , ign +ve and earth to the back of the radio.

The control unit will sit behind the plastic panel by the passengers right foot and when wrapped in bubble wrap wont rattle.

There was enough mic cable on my Ck7w to run underneath the dash and up the A post hidden in the door seal moulding or A post cover.

The volume control I mounted to the left of the steering wheel below the instrument cluster.

I fitted the small speaker underneath the heater contols and is hidden from view unless you have the gear stick in your ear.

Originally I connected up the radio mute but later disconected it as it got on my nervs when the sat nav instructions from my phone would mute Foo Fighters.

CK7W, Nokia N73 and Navicore sat nav brilliant set up............

did I mention that I had an unlocked N73 with Navicore sat nav for sale ? going Cheap !!!!!!!!!!

Hope this helps.

I work for Carphone Warehouse. We can order wiring looms for any make/model and they are £35.00. Installation isnt a simple task. Wires need to be cut and trim needs to be removed.

Wires don't need to be cut for the Fabia and you certainly don't need a £35 lead.

No trim needs to be removed either.

To be fair that guide isn't as easy to follow for everyone and a mute lead does make things a lot easier for some people. You don't need to cut (Although scotchloks could be considered cutting) but it's a lot easier to removing the glove box (30 seconds) and the stereo (10 seconds) to stow the kit and access the wiring.

My Parrot was straight in through just an inline connector through standard connector, even though I had a mute lead from my Golf, it wasn't needed. However I am not sure if the CK-7 has the same capability, doing a search on here and more specifically the ICE forum will reveal more answers.

A mute lead just makes some kits plug and play and the sound quality against using the little speaker is in a different league (Even though the Fabia is a very quiet car at speed, at 70mph that speaker will be crap). I wouldn't pay £35 for one though, it's just plain rude that CPW still charge that for them and they can be had a lot cheaper elsewhere.

The mute works perfectly for my Parrot, it's just a shame the car kit is so bad.

The guide I wrote feeds the sound directly into the Head Unit via the proper Telephone connections - as it was designed to be. It mutes the Head Unit properly and also gives you control of the volume level via the head unit.

It may not seem easy at first glance but it really is.

I agree that these mute leads are an easy option but they aren't always wired correctly for VAG vehicles where the switched and permanant live are often reversed.

I fitted a Nokia car kit to SWMBO's Fabia using Stu's guide and it works brilliantly, exactly as Stu describes !:)

It's not really that difficult to do providing that you have all the parts required to hand as listed in Stu's guide and have a moderate degree of competence.

The hardest part I found was deciding where and how to install the phone cradle, as SWMBO's phone is actually from the Stoneage without bluetooth and she refuses all attempts in persuading her to update !

Hey, don't get me wrong, it's a brilliant guide and I have used it myself for the pinouts.

I must know a lot of Muppets ;)

Nahh, I didn't take it that way at all and I know what you mean. In fact I agree with you given that wq949966 has already admitted in another post ......

...but given that i am a technically challenged (woman), some help fro m the techies would be appriciated.

in relation to the admission to being "technically challenged" it may actually be wise for her to seek some assistance if she intends tackling this herself. :)
