Paddles for DSG

Featured Replies

Wild Q this - Has anyone investigated whether it is possible to fit paddles or wheel switches for the DSG box. Having driven a couple of paddle shift cars on a recent supercar track day they really appeal and the standard DSG manual mode is not very intuitive.

The A3 with this box has paddles but have no idea if a retrofit is possible/practical.

I dare say that this is technically feasible, as you say Audi do it (and I think VW on the Golf as well) BUT I would suggest that the parts/labour/engineering costs would make the whole exercise prohibitively expensive.

Sorry, but if you really want paddle shift (that much), get rid of your Octy and buy something else.

I don't know if this can be applied to the Octavia DSG. But assumming it needs a switch to be fooled.

Might not be relevant at all, but gives you some ideas.

Hey!

That is my car! :D

Seems me and my car are a little bit be famous outside VAGclub.com forum.

At this moment there are two Octavia II DSG with steering wheel with shift paddles (Golf V GTI)

This mod seems be more difficult than it appear. In only 1 hour you can change steering wheel and recode steering wheel control unit.

Parts needed:

- Steering wheel and airbag from a VW Golf GTI DSG (my GTI steering is model 2007)

- Airbag wire with control multifunction buttons connection. P/N 1K0 971 584 C

- UC for steering wheel. P/N 1K0 953 549 AK (also valid 1K0 953 549 AQ)

Verify if steering wheel ring (part in pic below) has part number 1K0 959 653 C. If part number is similar but it don't end in "C" that piece is not valid and you'll need to change it.

Method to install it is the same that is described at http://www.briskoda.net/forums/new-octavia/retrofitted-multifunctional-steering-vrs-lot-pics/83624/]Retrofitted multifunctional steering on vRS (a lot of pics) link

Then, we have to recode ABS (03) and Steering Assist (44) UC with VAG-COM.

First, we delete all errors. It's probably than ABS and Steering Assist errors remains after DTC errors deleted.

Previous, steering wheel must be straigth and engine on.

Go to SELECT -> CHASSIS -> 44-STEERING ASSIST -> LOGIN II (or 16-SECURITY ACCESS, I don't remember) and type 40168 login code to start steering assist adaptation. Then, go to 04-BASIC SETTINGS and go to CHANNEL 60 and click on ON/OFF/NEXT button.

Then drive with the car straight ahead for 20 meters (at least) and below 20km/h. Then turn steering wheel to left until limit and keep this position for a 5-6 seconds. After that, turn again steering wheel to the other side (until end) and keep it 5-6 seconds. Steering wheel must be more "light" before adaptation procedure. Also steering wheel cluster icon and ESP cluster icon must be off.

At Ross-tech Wiki you can also get this adaptation procedure (under Golf V topics)

I'm really falled in love with this mod (and with my RS TDI cluster fitted last summer)

If you have more questions, please, share them with us.

P.D.: sorry for my bad english.

Welcome to Briskoda pas-pas a nice little how too, that will get them all going now :D

Stu, better start looking for the answers, to all the questions coming your way :D

Thank you for your "Thank you" :D

I'll try to answer all your doubts.

My only problem with the DSG box is that the + and - gear selectors are the wrong way around!

Although paddles would make it nicer to use without doubt!

Yes, of course.

Also, you don't need to move the selector to sequential side. You can use paddles in every position (D, S or sequential side). Just pulling of some paddle (+ or -) DSG turns to sequential mode. Keeping + paddle for a 2-3 seconds, DSG turns againg to D or S mode (if you are driving in this mode)

Inspired by PasPas, I made this modification too.

Only thing that i got the BK controller instead of AK and paddles work,

but it seems that I need to go to workshop to get warnings off.

With vag-com I tried the security login but it said controlled rejected...

Edit: Sorry, I didn't know how to reset it. Now I do.

Worked like a charm. So no need to visit dealer.

Atleast with paddles you can use BK controller.

Anyway, I wonder why didnt do this earlier.
