heated side mirrors

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a new Fabia 3.

Does anyone know how to turn on the heated side mirrors?

I've turned the electric mirror moving **** to the heated symbol (well it goes to the other side of the '0' marker). Is this correct?

It's seems as though the **** is not meant to do this, I don't want to break it.

Thanks,

STU

According to my dealer the heated mirrors should "always" be on and the heater symbol is only there to let you know they are heated.

I'd take that with a pinch of salt tho' as it took ages for mine to clear the other morning. When I get chance I'll have another look.

In the octavia MK2, you rotate the **** round so the pointer is pointing exactly opposite the off position then the heating is on. my mirrors clear very quickly.

was playing with a new fabia in the showroom today, i turned the **** anticlockwise until it reached the heated symbol, was quite stiff though.

edit: looks like it's censored the word Kn0b)

I've ordered a Fabia 3...on my old Fabia you moved the switch to the heat symbol. Is it different on this one?

Yep, on my new Fabia 3 you just turn the little **** past the heated mirror image to the point opposite the 'off' position.

It does feel a bit forced like it's going to snap off but it doesnt - honest! The heating is very quick too!

as above, thats how mine works too. clears them off quick, but i dont feel like the kn0b is going to break, guess im just heavy handed lol!

I thought the side mirrors only got powered up when the rear screen element was on? This would make sense in that it is not a good idea to have the mirror heating elements on all the time - you might easily forget and leave the control on the heat setting.

Mirror adjustment **** to heated position AND heated rear window on.

That is how the heated mirrors work on the wifes Fab3 anyway.

I tried turning on the heated mirrors on my Superb today and they worked without the heated rear window being on.

Must be careful as there is no warning light and the position of the **** is not always easy to see.

Well as the Superb is really based on the B5 Passat, I'd be very wary about leaving the switch in the heater position as I burnt out both my heaters by doing this. Coming from VX I thought no problem mirrors would only heat as long as timed heated rear screen was switched on. Bad move as 1) VW did not fit a timer to the rear screen heater and 2) switch in heated position = mirror heater on at all times with no overtemp protection. My cunning plan was to leave the mirror switch at heater position so that an accidental touch of the switch would not cause a mirror to move. I bumped into this important information on a Passat site probably a few months too late.

If its like the Octy2, the heated mirrors (even when switched to the heating position) only work when when the exterior temp. drops below a certain temp. E.G. No hot mirrors during the summer. AFAIK

I'll have to wait until next year now to see if the Superb mirrors are the same as the Octy 2!

Found that on my Fabia II 3, the mirrors are heated just buy turning the nob to opposite the '-0' sign. I do not need the rear window heater on.

I've used mine a couple of times but I think it is only by accident that the knob turns to the right place.

Lost count of the number of times I've left my heated mirrors on!

A warning light would have been nice...
