Fabia vRS front speaker sizes

Featured Replies

Right, there has been a lot of confusion on the size of the front medium component speaker in the door panel.

There have been reports of it being 13.5cm/5.25inches and 16.5cm/6.5 inches.

In a way, both are right!

This is because the OEM speaker has a diameter of approximately 13.5cm. However, the baffle / spacer into which the speaker is fitted is a 16.5cm hole.

The four holes on the door into which the OEM speakers are fitted line up with 3rd party speakers with 4 hole mounting points.

See attached pics.

Hope this makes sense.

OK, the tape looks like it's in the wrong place. But it's kind of the best I could do. :( Damn parallax error ;)

Yes. If you buy the Audioleads Golf speaker spacer (perfect fit) it fits a 165mm(6.5") speaker. That is what I went on.

Ah ha. Now Im with you Rooboy. Out of interest have you put 16cm's in yours? What type did you go for in order to get them to fit?

I spent ages trying to find some that would fit without hacking at the door, and all of the component speakers were too deep, so I have left it for now. (The co-axail speakers IMO are not enough of an improvement over the std ones for me to bother buying)

I looked at all the speakers in the Car Audion Centre in Ilford, Essex and they were all too deep even with the spacer.

has anyone managed to change the speakers without hacking the door? improvements?

Kenny, yes, I have put in some very good component speakers.

I've had to build spacers out of MDF, but the four holes in the woofer speaker line up with the rivets that hold the OEM speakers (which of course have been drilled out to remove the speaker).

A How-To-esque post with pics to explain a bit more can be found here
