Milotek Bonnet Lifters....

Featured Replies

...is it just me or are these just garbage. :thumbdwn:

It's supposedly made specifically for the octyII so why does the overly heavy bracket clash with the wing lip and make the centre of the bonnet lift by 5mm.

Also when it is fitted the lower ball joint is right on the limit of being forced out bar for the tiny locking pin. Completely ill engineered and expensive.

Seeing as how one of the clips broke for the bonnet stay i cant go back to standard so I am going to have to find a bench grinder and set to work on the bracket I had got nicely painted....

Oh dont say that! I got mine through the GB on here and have yet to fit them (getting them sprayed up first) - are they all like this then?!

The broken clip should be easy to replace and should only cost pennies. I presume you are referring to the clip that holds the bonnet stay when not being used?

I've got 2 bonnet lifters sprayed and ready and haven't had time to fit them (how ****e is that?!?). I hope mine are a better fit.

Yeah the one in the bonnet itself swine to get out so ended up using too much brute force.

A chat with your local friendly Skoda parts man should sort you out.

Failing that, someone might be able to provide the actual part number for you.......

Yeah that would be useful!.....

No problems at all with mine. Are you sure it's fitted correctly?

Mine's absolutely fine - the only slight issue is the bracket rests on the rubber seal at the top of the bonnet but not a problem really.

I'm no expert but why do you need two? They are designed so that you only need one to lift the bonnet. I would imagine that you will find it difficult to shut the bonnet with two fitted and if you were to let it lift up on its own it may well rip it out of its hinges.

Also, I don't think the parts will fit onto the left side as the requisite holes aren't present but I could be wrong.

Errm unless I'm being particularly thick (has been known) i'm pretty sure it's fitted correctly ... I mean two bolts in bonnet hinge! Bend the bonnet bracket to 90 degrees.. Screw ball head in to wing and bracket? Push on hydraulic lifter? It went on a breeze 5 minutes. Just makes the bonnet look badly fitted.

Here's mine fitted -

You are right, you dont need 2 to LIFT the bonnet, but you do need 2 to hold the bonnet more firmly in place when open, ie you cant move it in a slight twisting action on the single lifter as a pivot.

The bonnets arent light enough for 2 to send it to hyperspace... ;)

But, im going by my experiences on my VX, where i have 2 fitted, and no problems lifting, closing or supporting.

Im not sure about the Octavia though

EDIT, and now the above photos have loaded, i can see what you mean.. so kind of ignore this...:rofl:

I had the exact same issue with mine. I ended up taking loads of metal off the Bracket which goes on the bonnet. I sent detailed pics and info to Milotec who where going to look into it back in August but never got back to me.

I'll PM you there email addresses to see if you hear anything back.

It would be interesting to measure the backet to see if there are difference for different people.

See pictures in here for the the amount I removed. http://www.briskoda.net/forums/styling-car-care/bonnet-lifter-assembly/84628/

I also found that the angle on the lower balljoint isn't enough, it putting a bit of pressure on the pin, you can hear it when moving it. The ball is pulling a lot towards the pin.

I wouldn't bother getting one till more engineering work is done on them, Milotec see to have no interest in wanting to resolve it judging by the lack of replies I got.

Bummer...I'm yet to still fit mine! Hopefully it will go on nicely with no issues

Well make sure you give yourself plenty of time incase you have to remove it to modify ;)

We have 2 Octavias

Ahh well that answers that question then ;)

Thanks! Yes the pictures show exactly what's wrong with mine! I thought it was just me.. I'll take some measurements anyway and send some pictures to milotec and see.. Luckily i have access to some metal working tools so shouldn't have to do it manually.

I was thinking of just getting rid of the U channel completely so its just a flat bar. The steel is so thick it will easily take the pressure of the piston.

Ahh well that answers that question then ;)

Glutton for punishment some would say

I wouldn't be happy removing all of the sides of the bracket- particularly in the vicinity of the ram connection point, despite the thickness of the metal it could still flex with the considerable force of the ram. The U shape obviously gives it vastly more strength.

Just my two penneth of course :o

And I was just about to order a pair!!

Has there been problems fitting them to the Octy 1?

Perhaps you guys will keep the post going with some feedback!!

you can't fit a pair of lifters to the Octavia II, you only need the one but IMHO it looks odd.

You can pretty much guarantee this thread will rumble on for a while

"whats that noise? why it's this thread dying on it's ***!"

I copied the Milotec guys on this thread, so hopefully they will come back with there findings on the matter. No point selling an item that fits some cars and doesn't on others. I haven't a clue why it does work on some cars but I do know we also put it in czechmates car prior o painting and he had to do the same as me.

I'm not going to mess about with mine until we get something definitive on the bracket.

Best contact Milotec and express your concerns ;).

Hi, just ordered one of the Milotec lifters, THEN checked on here about them :o. Any chance of you posting close-up pix of each end attacthed to the car? I would love to have them to refer to when I go to fit mine:thumbup:, the instructions that come with these things usually leaves a little to be desired :thumbdwn::rofl:
