I know a number of us on here have phatbox MP3 players installed to various head units and with the demise of phatnoise (absorbed or bought by Harman) the update websites are down and firmware and tools are hard to get hold of.

I thought it may be useful to post up some resources that I have been using and help point people in the right direction.

PhatHack this is full of useful info and how to's, it was actually pointed out to me a while back by another Brisky member.

PhatBox Firmware Upgrade this has all the current firmwares for the phatbox available for download to support different head units

This is in alpha at the moment, but it is a replacement to the clunky old phatnoise music manager and I am using it to sync my DMS and it is really pretty good.

This is another community site supporting phatnoise systems and the guy that wrote the phathackmm runs it, it's a great source for hint's, tips and tweaks to phatbox's

I have got a copy of the latest non reg phatnoise music manager (v3.92) which I am happy to host or send to anyone who wants it.

The phatbox is a great system, I really do like mine and thought this post may help others who have just got one, are thinking about getting one or have not updated theirs for a while.

Does anyone use a Phatbox on an aftermarket headunit?

I use one with my Ibiza's standard radio and it works well... had it on my previous car (Toledo) too

I was just doing a google check to see how the site was ranking and found this post somewhat to my surprise. As far as I knew there was no-one using the software but me actively...!

As the author of the software above, I'm constantly making changes and welcome any and all feedback or feature requests.

I released a new version yesterday with some speed improvements for people with bigger libraries, and it includes some new iTunes import functions.

I'd also like to point out it's not exclusively for use by those with PhatBox / Kenwood Keg units. It can be used with any memory stick devices, external USB drives, or MP3 players (using Windows Generic Volumes).

MTP device support will follow once the core application is settled down (the principles are proven, I've just got to spend the time learning the MTP protocol in amongst everything else).

Have '05 Octavia with sat nav but no CD changer......so got an ex-audi Phatbox & connecting lead for VW.

Hooked up....and on CD get message no CD.

So set AV for audio and then if I press AV select CD then 6 options are shown.

Have a few tracks on the cartridge, but female gabbles the album title quickly and a male voice informs me files are nbg!!!

Am I missing something?

Answers in simple speak as I'm ok with mechanical stuff but computers are a mystery !!

I hope this part of the forum gets a bit of attention as I've just bought Simon Sheil's unit and have already found it hard to find software. The disc that comes with the unit doesn't want to know my Vista lappy, so I'm gonna use the links here.

There is a link here that might work. I'm fairly sure I did run it under vista at soem point.
