Indicator relay clicking when not turned on?

Featured Replies

Hi, I have a TDi L&K estate on a 02. The fault I have is it sounds like the indicators are on when it is not. Could it be a relay on the blink, the indicators work ok, but there is this intermittent sound which can be slow or fast, as through a relay is clicking on and off.

Where is it located, if it is a relay, and can you get to it easily?

Hope someone can help

There were issues relating to a clicking sound coming from the dashboard.

After switching on the ignition, a disturbing noise

(ticking, clicking) can be heard from the right side

of the dashboard in some Octavia II vehicles

equipped with the two-zone Climatronic airconditioning

If it's on an 02 won't it be a mk.1 Octavia?

If so it might get a better response in the appropriate section as it will be read by more of the Mk. 1 owners.

Just my two penneth :o

If it is a MK I it will be the indicator relay, this is part of the hazard switch.

IIRC the uprated part is about £30-35 from skoda and fitting is an easy job with one small flat screwdriver.

A quick search on here will find out how to fit it.

It won't be the relay, as when these fail the indicators flash very slowly or not at all when the switch is operated. The relay clicking without the switch been operated will be a stalk switch fault, first off spray some switch cleaner into it and work it in to see if it improves. The fix would be to replace the switch which is a steering wheel and airbag out job. The price of a normal switch without cruise control is around £35, I think that the cruise control one will be more.

^ yup, same problems that is common on a Mk4 Golf

I've had this problem on my Superb 03. Very annoying..........

changed the hazard warning switch, still clicking:mad:.

Then bought the indicator stalk off scrapyard for a £10 & it worked:):)

Back to peaceful drive:thumbup:

Hi, this is my first post, although I have been a member for a while and owned my red Mk1 vRS for just over a year.

Its a Feb 2005 (54) plate and just clocked 40k. Just today I have noticed this very noticeable clicking sound from the right hand side of the dashboard. It does sound like a dull version of the indicator clicking.

My car has cruise control, anyone have an idea how much this is to replace compared with a standard stalk?

Is the stalk really the fault, and if I ignore the sound, will it get worse or cause any other problems?

cheers,

tonyjo

The indicator relay is built into the hazard switch, and is in the middle of the dash not the right. There are other relays on the right, if you remove the cover around the pedals and look up you will see them. You need to identify exactly where the noise is coming from to determine what is at fault.

Seems to be a common problem, my Octy on a 03 plate has this annoying ticking and it definately comes from the right hand side of the dashboard just above the light switch.
