Fabia VRS SE - Clutch / Gearbox Issue

Featured Replies

Hello :)

Problem:-

I recently had an issue where the car wouldn’t go into reverse and had some resistance in the forward gears. That magically went away after not using the car for 5 or so days. Had it checked out by the dealer and they found no problems.

However, now with clutch pressed I select 1st gear. During the selection of that gear the car feels like it wants to move, well actually it does (maybe a ½ cm). Should I be worried, should I get my car back down to the dealer?

Had a similar thing that was down to leaking/ low clutch fluid, but that was on a Talbot Horizon :D

lol:rofl::rofl:

like a comunity support officer then:thumbup:

Mine does this sometimes into 1st gear, think the clutch doesn't disengage properly or something. Get a tapping noise with the revs sometimes coming from the clutch too. Get the feeling it's gonna go wrong, they better sort it under warranty. My guess is the clutch release bearing.

mmm, deffo sounds like clutch drag to me.... as if the clutch isn't clearing properly, and what postmanpat said could be true (talbot horizon or not! lol..) the system could have a hydraulic leak......

I'd get it back to your dealer before you get any gearbox damage....

Cheers for the advise, it’s going back Friday, having to demo the problem to a technician because the first time around they could find any problems. Makes you wonder if they even checked it……

Sometimes what we get on the job card isnt what your issue is exactly.

Its like chinese whispers, you explain it to a non technical person who probably knows naff all about cars, that gets typed onto a job card and then handed to me. Suddenly a clutch issue becomes radio inop.

Fair enough, point taken.

I have the exact same thing happening with My Fabia VRS. I goes into reverse and 1st fine for about 10 minutes when its cold. Once warm it gets hard to put into 1st and I have to select other gears to persuade it into gear.

By the time I get to work it won't go into reverse and I sit there in the car park trying to get it to go backwards, most annoying.

I showed it to my dealer today, and he gave me a quarter and told me to forget about it -I -m-mean he believed that the gear lever was in the wrong position and far too far over to the left when in 1st.

Looking at it, that seemed right. And he also found that if you push the knob down as you would to get it into reverse, 1st would select with ease.

However, on driving home afterwards, through town, it seemed to be a bit hard to get into ALL the gears.

However, I'm dropping it off at the dealer on friday, so I'll post back on this and let you know how much I've been ripped off and that they haven't solved my problem. -I mean how swiftly my friendly skoda dealer has sorted my problem with as little cost to me as possible P.M.A, P.M.A!

By the way, whats with this 'arrange your own insurance' on the courtesy car?

Surely this will only anger customers to the point where C.C's will arrive back with bald tyres and the new car smell will have been exchanged for odor de clutch? ;-)

I have the same problem its damn annoying if you listen carefully can you hear a noise from the box

Mine will hold itself on a slight incline

I have had the master cylinder changed, didnt fix it

However i have spoke to a mate who had the same fault his got quite bad

Turns out to be a weak pressure plate something to do with fingers

Mine runs out of warranty in nov so i will be having it done before then

He fixed the prob on an Audi A4 by replacing the clutch

By the way, whats with this 'arrange your own insurance' on the courtesy car?
Both my wife's car insurer (NU Direct) and mine (LV) provide fully comp cover when driving a 'motor trade courtesy car'.

Hi Guys, I've got my VRS back from the dealer and to be honest I was quite impressed. They did a 10k service for £148 and also had a look at the clutch/gearbox free of charge. They ended up tightening up the gearbox linkages which were loose and unfortunately since they've been loose for some time they have been subject to a little wear. However, the car is completely different now, the clutch biting point for some reason isn't down at the floorboards any more, its half way up the pedal where it should be.

And IT HAS NO PROBLEM GOING INTO GEAR NOW!

Whoo hoo!

Hey, you know who I said there was no trouble going into gear?

Well a few weeks later the problem has still emerged, its no where near as bad but, still there.

Strangely, when the problem does re-emerge, the clutch biting point seems to be at the bottom of its travel again and the car does move forward slightly when you slot it into gear.

Only seems to occur after a lot of stop start, around town driving.

My dealer this week suggested taking the box off (at my expense) getting a skoda engineer to check clutch if its normal wear and tear £520 bill if its a warranty job no charge.

But its likely the clutch even though its intermittant and my audi mechanic mate reckons its the slave cylinder (done a few)

might just chop it in for a leon tdi
