Thumbs up Mallory Park Discussion & Pics!

Hey everyone!

Mallory Park today was cool. It was a bit hard to work out where to go when I got there, but the marshall on the gate pointed me in the right direction. I was there from 9am to 2pm. It was *so* cold in the morning, but it got better as the day went on. Last thing I saw was a chap roll his Golf at the entrance to the pit straight. We think he got out OK - anyone know any more details?

Apart from that, it looked like everyone was having good clean fun And, only a few reliability problems from the sizable Skoda contingent!

I'm just sorting some photos out. Will post back in a mo.

Hi,
Agreed a cold but enjoyable day, would have been nice to see more diesel on track kicking, especially Jason's work of art when it's on full power.
Be good to have a get together near the east midlands before xmas!

My effort, Bryan

I enjoyed it - FK coilovers totally ROCK on track - performed much better on corners than my eibach setup ever did. Power was full all the time too, and I was very happy indeed.

How come we only get to hear about it AFTER the event?

Glad you had a good time, anyway.

There's been a couple of threads running - one started by msportman who put out the initial offer to Briskoda.

I even feel sunburnt, which is something quite amazing given its the 12th Nov!

I managed to never see them - never mind, was stuck up here in Scotland anyway. Looks like no more track action for me for the rest of the year, now

Ahem.... Well it came in from a session with oil splattered ALL over the back of the engine bay and the bonnet, and covering the block....

Suspected head gasket failure.

Like Dr Z's liberal use of the spray can.

edit: I should say everyone else there said they couldn't see even a hint of smoke from my car. Was well chuffed considering the amount of beans I was giving it. Might have something to do with the large pipework used throughout the intake, outake,FMIC,inlet. Nothing smaller than 50mm in all of it.

Default Fantastic day

Was a great day out - Mallory again I think!

Great to meet you guys - even if we did blow some gaskets!.

I spoke to the guy with the rolled golf - caused by some SmeeeeeHeeee who couldnt drive a subaru and keep it on line. The final part was gentle and he was just REALLY embarrassed! ( so only the pride was hurt but at least it shows he was trying hard)

Firstly, I had a great day out at Mallory, particularly during the morning session, the car was driving excellently and the circuit is fairly quick to learn and not at all scary. I was a little surprised that only a handful of us were there for the track when it was less than £100 per car.

However, as the pictures above point out, my car developed a bit of a technical fault towards the end of the third session, the visual result being oil covering most of the offside bulkhead, originating from the back of the block somewhere. I cannot thank the guys at TSR enough for offering to trailer the car back to Bridgewater with them at the end of the day, whilst SWMBO drove up north from the south coast to meet me at Watford Gap services after Jason dropped me off there - thank you all . It was decided it was best not to try to run the car any further (an impossibility as it would later turn out anyhow).

So to bring you all up to date, Neal at TSR gave me a ring this afternoon, with the words "are you sitting down?"

A compression test showed two cylinders were fine, one down a bit and the fourth none existant. Head then came off to reveal the circumference of the piston to have melted . So a little more than just a blown head gasket I am afraid to say. Fortunately (if one can be fortunate about these things) the head is fine and the block is OK. So new pistons are a definate, the next issue concerns whether some work is undertake to up-rate the internals to prevent this from occuring again, or give track days a miss, or turn the boost down to reduce the heat and stress on the internals......

Anyhow, for those interested, I can certainly recommend having gearbox rebuild with and LSD, Steve (of spin off the track fame) came out with me on the ill-fated session and was well impressed with the positive impact the LSD makes on the traction of the car through and out of corners, particularly the 2nd gear hairpin at the top end of the Mallory circuit.
