40th birthday...what do I ask for?
04 February 2012 - 16:35
It's my 40th in August. When SWMBO was 40 about 18 months ago, she wanted a joint party with a friend of hers so I think we spent about £400 on that.
I don't want a party, but something that I can't afford/justify in normal times....so....
choices..
1. Roadhawk GPS camera
2. Remap
3. Winter tyres
4. 42" LCD TV
Any other suggestions? What should I go for? :giggle: -
Fake speed camera
04 February 2012 - 15:10
BBC reports a fake camera being installed in a Notts village.
Firstly, not much point putting it up if national media are going to announce that it's fake.
Secondly, what a load of carp from the County Council "Nottinghamshire County Council said the camera was legal because it was located on private land, but added the owner could be liable if someone blamed it for a crash."
What? Why? If that's correct then why isn't the operator of a "real" camera liable? Also, why would they not condone the installation of a fake camera? -
loft space ventilation
03 February 2012 - 20:11
Hi,
I've got one of those roof vents that vents either side of one of the ridge tiles. The problem is, my roof runs roughly north to south, so when its rainy and windy, the prevailing wind blows the rain in the vent and makes the loft space wet. The previous owner has laid a large square of plastic down to stop the water from soaking through the loft insulation and soaking the ceiling.
It strikes me as a pretty crappy piece of design but I'm reluctant to block it totally for obvious reasons. What can I do instead?
Thanks,
Martin -
Smoke on startup
03 February 2012 - 12:17
Hi all,
My PD130 produces a visible smoke cloud at startup. It doesn't seem to use any oil - I've never had to add any between services. It's a big enough cloud that when I start up in the mornings and reverse off the drive, it's still in the air as I reverse through it....
Smokes a bit when accelerating hard, but then it would, wouldn't it? I do drive it reasonably gently nearly everywhere, so is this a sign that it just needs a good thrashing now and again?
cheers,
Martin
