Wheel Bearing
Found this and it seems to be very helpful for DIYers Cheers mate. Yeah I really thought I'd stripped the top spine bolt. Not what you want on the gravel driveway at home:)

Wheel Bearing
Wheel bearing fixed lads. Thanks for the help. Even tho I was sure the sound was coming from the front left when I started the job the bearing sounded smooth to turn by hand and no play in it. So I stripped the front right down and it wasn't smooth to turn and had a slight grinding noise to it. I started thinking there was something wrong at the gearbox end but swapped out the bearing front right and when I took it for a drive the drone sound was gone. The 3 M12 spline bolts holding the bearing where crazy right and I was lucky a had two m12 bits one a long one to reach the top bolt square on, felt like it was gonna strip out but all sorted now Appreciate the advice👍 Stuck caliper piston and timing belt/water pump next🙈

Wheel Bearing
Great info thanks again The sound on mine really disappears if I turn right and I read others saying the drone noise they were getting was between certain speeds but again mine seems to be constant and louder the faster I'm going. Did you notice any unusual wear on you're tyres also The outside on both my fronts is wearing which I don't understand as sounds coming from left I'm freaked out I'll change the bearing unit and noise will be still there Garages around mine are flat out. I called into a couple and guy said at least 2 weeks I'm in Ireland by the way👍

Wheel Bearing
Don't have impact gun unfortunately. Don't even have a torque wrench that goes that high but can try borrow one Can I ask you the same question Steve When I turn steering wheel to the right when driving the sound disappears. Even turning slightly to the right it disappears. Is that consistent with a faulty front left bearing? Cheers for the help

Wheel Bearing
Thanks. That helps quite a bit. I think mine is the 4 bolt unit but will check before ordering. Is it doable without torque wrench. I only have a smaller TW. Does it make sense that if the front left bearing is worn out when I turn steering wheel to the right the drone sound disappears? I just don't want to change the wheel bearing to find the sound was caused by something else Thanks for the advice

Wheel Bearing
2007 1.9 BXE hatchback Octavia Changing front wheel bearing it's not a press in? It's a unit with bearing in is that right? To replace you need to remove brake carrier, the 3 control arm nuts and the axel out of the hub for access? Read somewhere you can leave axel in place but not sure about that Does the old bearing just slide out once you remove the 4 bolts that hold it? Horrible drone noise driving, sounds front left. When I turn steering wheel to right sound disappears. Does that sound right for bearing Also outside of both front tires is wearing Can needs a lot of attention including overdue cam belt/water pump. Was my father's so thinking of putting some money into it Thanks

Alternator or Battery?
Cheers for that. Not so many breakers in Ireland as UK but that helps with my options

Alternator or Battery?
Thanks Pete you've been a big help here. Removed the loom. And after looking thru eBay n google images finally discovered my loom doesn't go to starter...only the alternator and aircon pump (95% sure) 2nd pic the vin? Thanks again

Alternator or Battery?
Ha presume your having a laugh, it's got an oil leak I think is from oil pump if the oil pump sits on the right side of the rocker. It's 330k miles on it and probably a lot of original parts still on there Badly needs degreaser the poor girl

Alternator or Battery?
Sorry I just looked again. From what I can see and those 3 pics I hope you can too the wire from SA1 comes down and then splits. One goes down to whatever is under the alternator and the other goes to Alternator itself where it also splits again...if you follow me:) In the top pic it's the smaller cable with the white line that runs down to the other thing (I really gotta find out what that is)

Alternator or Battery?
No it's not that one. Goes to a 2 pin connector on whatever is directly under the alternator on my model. It has metal pipes going to it Power steering pump?
-
Alternator or Battery?
Ok. Removed battery tray and few bits for better look around.amongst other things discovered that the wire I referred to earlier, one that goes into fues box at SA1 I believe is nearly cut thru completely. I'm guessing and I mean guessing that this would cause battery drain when car sitting. I'm hoping I can replace it. It runs from that fuse box SA1 across to the pump under the alternator. Is that the power steering pump? Would anyone know is that a cable that I can order online or dealer only. I'll try add a pic of where it connects...

Alternator or Battery?
Ah rite. Sorry I wasn't thinking much past the obvious. But I see now there can be other faults but similar battery symptoms I got a new battery so I'll put that in and see. Will try tidy up the chewed wire as best I can but I guess over time damage will occur along it. Used to be a great breakers near me where the guy would let you bring tools and remove parts you wanted. Closed down tho sadly Thanks for the help

Alternator or Battery?
Ok thanks for that and the diagram. Whatever it is it's annoying as hell. 330k miles on this girl, maybe time to move on

Alternator or Battery?
Ok. Why would the starter work grand off jump leads on another cars battery but not work properly off my car battery? That's what I don't get re starter motor Thanks
