2014 Octavia VRS with Canton - what head unit can i upgrade to for smartlink ?
2014 will be MIB1. For Android Auto etc you'll need MIB2, and as you have Canton you'll also need an MIB2 Canton amp as well if you change. Starts getting expensive when you factor in the cost of parts, Component Protection removal, etc.

Navigation Database update Amundsen
Do you have an SD card in the unit with a maps database on it?

Columbus head unit
I'm just moving house so not really able to offer repairs currently. Sold off loads of stuff and now don't have a workshop for the foreseeable future I'm afraid.

Columbus head unit
The Bluetooth pairing and the radio cutting out with a thump are not related I think. Just coincidental that you have two faults. Disconnect the Bluetooth unit under the drivers seat and reset it, then re pair your phone might be a cure for that (but with a faulty Columbus there's always a possibility that Bluetooth problems can't be addressed until you get that fixed). The thumping sound invariably is the radio board in the unit needs replacing. There are a few different ones depending on what unit you actually have, but best case it'll be a £90 fix for me to do, worst case it'll mean the cost of parts makes it uneconomical (new radio board & main board cost in the region of £300 to buy, then labour to replace).

Columbus sat. nav. - replacement SD card.
First thing to try is a maps update. Free to do (you'll need a 32Gb usb drive) and reinstall the maps. See here...

Columbus sat. nav. - replacement SD card.
That could be correct, but the fact remains that Skoda dealers & Customer Services have stated that the system doesn't use an sd card.

Columbus sat. nav. - replacement SD card.
Dealer talking *******s I'm afraid. The Columbus doesn't use maps from an sd card, they're stored on the internal memory. The absence of an sd card is not relevant.

Insurer requests to see my v5, thoughts?
Simple answer. Don't do anything which will cause them to cancel the policy. Every time you take out insurance you get asked "Have you ever had any insurance policy cancelled or declined" and if the answer is "Yes" then you'll be in for a world of pain. So, my advice, take a hit now and cancel the policy yourself, then take out a new policy making sure you put in the correct details.

Pre-FL Head Unit Upgrade
I'd go OEM Bluetooth personally, but I don't know what particular module would suit your car.

Pre-FL Head Unit Upgrade
Columbus can fit with a simple fascia change. Bolero, well some are the same shape as the Stream and some are Columbus shape, so both will fit or can be made to fit. Bolero will give you touchscreen and 6 cd player over what yuou currently have. Columbus will give you touchscreen, DVD player, built in hard drive for music storage, and sat nav. I've a cheap Columbus in the sales forum, Cumbria isn't too far away if you want it fitting.

No, sorry. That would be bargain of the year as the loom costs £30.

Yes & No. Yes it'll fit (provided you get a new fascia maybe to suit the different shape) and no it doesn't have Bluetooth. None of the Columbus do.

If you want to go to Skoda (or VW, same maps different branding) then expect to pay in the region of £180 or so.
