Default Wales tour : long and hard...fly boys need not apply

Right it's a blinking long time since we've had one of these and fr those who don't know...racing it's not...tour it is.

Thats right folks a Welsh meet and about time I hear some crys from the wings.

The basic format of one of these meets is such that we all meet at a hotel the night before; although some heros do set of at silly o'clock and look like death at normal o'clock.

We have a bite to eat and a few rounds of ales to help settle into our budget accomodation.

We awake have breakfast and watch me run around like a headless chicken.

Quick drive to a meeting point; although this year it will be the same car park thus buying me an extra hour in bed.

From said hotel car park we depart in small groups for a tour thats a TOUR not a race as welsh plod have clever things like camera vans disgusied as ice cream vans and whumpa thumpa's in the sky with radios and everything...clever they are, expensive they can be. Most of the roads are nigh on impossible to go at nsl + anyway; which is not a challenge, more a promise.

Anyhow distracted as I was there for a moment, we set of on a skoda adventure; I'd say mini adventure, but risk being sued. Approx evert 40 mins we pull over to talk like men about our exploits avoiding bunnies and overtaking tractors; oh and take in some grand views.

Approx 200miles later we arrive at a pub; exhausted save for Jon who is part car and rumoured to be one of the next generation hybrid models, quite where the model comes in I have no idea, a hanky company are very interested in him I hear on the grapvine. Or is it genticlabsvine...heck I have no idea which is how most of you will feel if we get the route right.

So enough with the babbling, the reccy trips are alreay under way and it will be a good day, as long as the roads have not melted.

So sign up to this thread and I'll update it as I go, date is not yet set, but work on September to avoid the traffic so later Sep.

Meeting point will be in and around Owsetry for planing purposes.

This year I may do a twist ad have a camping night in the middle and thus ctaully have two meets in one, a kind of welsh multi meet.

Jason; your welcome, but the pub has stopped doing soup with rolls.

I repeat this is not a race day and I'll be deeply miffed if anybody thinks it's funny to do so; it's not and besides the sky has eyes...

Oh and it's nothing to do with briskoda if anybody asks

So Sign up now, budget for a hotel, some beer and a tank of fuel; unless you drive a fabia; in which case budget for extra beers for the 1.8t owners who will have to wait for you of course

Okay that last bit was a sick joke; sorry but hey unless we laugh we'll be upset by those who laugh at us...

For those who came on the last one; similar but different I hope.

Space are not limited; but if demand is suffiient I'll prepare a long way arond and short way around route; thus thise who set cruise at 60 and hang on for dear life can have fun with those who prefer 40 and using brakes for corners.

OI!

I resemble those remarks!

At least this time I'm in a nice slow diesel

Last time, drove from Surrey to Oswestry, did the 200 mile route, drove back to Surrey via Bristol (to drop off a man who'd rather carelessly had one roll too many ). Twas a long day but jolly good fun.

Count me in, I'll lead the slow group again ain't got nowt to prove, just a nice drive in the countryside

This assumes I don't have a 7 year old in tow, cos if I do, I ain't coming

When are you planning on doing this?

The first one was good fun so I may well be up for this.

Is this a SKoda only meeting ?

I may have been distracted by Mr. Nissan's attempts to sell me parts with funny squiggly writing on them by September

EDIT: Are there any tunnels on the route?

I don't know whether to or

Depending on times etc I'll always be interested, but would rather go a more leisurely pace this time, and don't blame me if I slow down to 15mph through the horseshoe pass..... I may even stop there for a bit, just not on my roof.

Hmmm latter half of Sept, eh? Gonna be on a 2 week course in Bristol which is either gonna be good or bad, from the 18th Sept... straight after I get back from Czech..... Shall have to see.

Apparently you just need to be long and hard, which is no problem by me. Oh hang on, is that referring to the tour. I thought it was long and hard people on a fly tour (what I usually end up doing) not the other way around.

Up for this, only minor niggle is that I am organising another bike trip to the Harz in September so hopefully I can sort my admin out to avoid a clash.
