Usual disclaimers about law, etc. IANAL.
1) Any event involving fewer than 12 vehicles is automatically exempt from regulations as long as there is no "timing" element (except for obvious "time out" situations where competitors are hopelessly lost and are instructed to "be at point X by <time>". The local constabulary should be notifed.
2) Any event with more than twelve vehicles must be authorised by the relevant national rallysport organisation. IIRC that's BRCCin the UK - but they delegate authorisation to local clubs.

Of course, this is just what the regulations say. I doubt that any of the organisers of local treasure hunts throughout the contry actually know the rules, let alone adhere to them - and still everything goes smoothly

Can't believe tomorrow is Aug...where is the time going?

As to are we going Top bottom or middle after Owestry; that would be telling, last time we did all three though

Any chance this is still going ahead in this weekend? I need to know in the next couple of days if anything is afoot so I know whether to stay on in Brizzle during my course, or just go home for the weekend, instead of galavanting around North Wales.

2) Any event with more than twelve vehicles must be authorised by the relevant national rallysport organisation. IIRC that's BRCCin the UK - but they delegate authorisation to local clubs.
It would be the MSA (Motor Sport Association) in this country.
As it wouldn't be run by a motor club it's rules would apply but looking at theblue book rules for a treasure hunt they'd be sensible ones to run too.

K21.7.2 A Treasure Hunt must comply with the following:

a) No merit must attach to being the first to arrive at the finish or any other point.

b) Competitiors must not be required to arrive at any point other than the finish, at or by, a specific time.

c) Where an overall time limit is set for the event it must be possible to be the winner without exceeding an average speed of 10mph from start to finish.

d) Competitiors must not be required to travel more than 100 miles on a highway or to perform any task or solve any problem such as likely to inconvenience or offend any person not taking part in the event.

Personally I'd say point 'd' is most important as if anyone causes a nusience the local will complain and the MSA liason officer will become involved and it will get hard for bona fide motor clubs to gain routes for road rallys.

At least I'll be able to distance myself from the group if the plod turn up "Me, be with those skoda drivers... I dont think so!"

Looking forward to this but we need dates firming up. My weekends are already filling as SWMBO arranges things.

This is still being planned for the weekend of Sept 23rd/24th right? I need to book my hotel before I go to the Ring, so need to know if we're staying in that place just off the A5 again, and doing a little drive on the Sunday. Or not.

I can do 23/24 Sept, and every other weekend after that Col.

Assume you still want me to lead the "slow and sensible" group?
