Bl**dy Avatars....

Guys I think I need some advice. I know this has been asked a trillion times before but I've got a digi piccie of my car that I want to use as an Avatar. Thing is that the image I want to use is 1799 x 1199 pixels and 495 kb which is obviously larger than the 90 x 90 pixels and 20 kb maximum that is stated in the avatar section of the control panel.

Can I find a way of solving this - can I bo**ocks. Unfortunately I've only got photo editor and the usual windows software on my PC which probably doesn't help.

As you might have gathered I'm a bit thick when it comes to computers so please be gentle. Oh BTW where's the 'anykey'? Mr Compaq keeps asking me to press it to continue......

I use a piece of software called Lviewpro (do a search for it on your favourite search engine).
Comes with a 30 day evaluation after which you can pay for it or put up with it nagging you.
It used to be a wonderfully easy to use product, but now looks a bit more intimidating - however,
all you need to know is the "edit" menu and "resize"...then scale it down!

Or if you can't be doing with all that, let me know then I'll do a "by return" e-mail resize for you...

Not knowing much about computers , but I would say that by the time you had resized that picture it would look silly and not be of any use to you .

I tried this with microsoft paint , to resize a picture and in the end it looked stupid - I had a very , very tall car

But quite possibly , someone who knows more than me ( not difficult ) will give you a different answer .

PS before I've even submitted the post Rob has beaten me to it , but now I've got this far I am going to post anyway

Well, you can either make a square picture and shrink it, or
shrink the original while preserving the aspect ratio so that the
longest dimension is less than 20 pixels...

Thanks Rob, Just started the download now and only 35 mins to go. Better go and get another couple of bottles of Becks out of the fridge to keep me amused - bl**dy dialup cr4p... Will let you know and thanks for the offer. Might take you up on that if the download doesn't work.

Mellow, Yep I know what you mean. I sort of figured out how to do it in paint but the resolution was garbage. The car looked like it was made out of duplo bricks..

Mellow, yeah have to agree but still too complicated for me. Can't count you see... Ha Ha

Well, just had a look and only 12 mins to go before end of download. Good thing about it is the excuse to stay up and get p*ssed. Negative is BIG meeting in the morning with client....

Paint for me too. The old Stretch/Skew option does the job, you just have to guess the percentages

Helps if you start with a JPEG.

I'm reckoning the new head unit will fix the problem (hence the
need to buy a new head unit! ).
Wonder if it would be possible to put one of those sequencers
on the dash lights...nah, that would just be tacky... :p
