| right it looks like getting rid of the furbie is a strong possibility now and have been offered a '99' Octavia slxi estate 1.6. the octy has 68000 miles but looks totally immaculate for the mileage all the toys work and into the deal i am getting 4xnew tyres a cambelt change and headlamp protectors, it was serviced before the car was traded in to the dealership and seems good mechanically. Can anyone tell me of potential issues with these cars ? sorry forgot to add it is up for £4995 and am getting £4000 for the furbie. (I was so blown away by Robs octy's performance at the national it had to be a 1.6 )Many thanks Last edited by Alex; 07-10-2003 at 01:09. |

| Well, considering the trouble the furbie has given you, and you can afford to run a costlier/bigger 1.6 Octy, I'd say GO FOR IT! I'm assuming Rob's is a 1.6 SLXI too, so he may be able to advise too...?

| Mine's the Ambiente, so the SLXi is actually a relatively higher spec - whether this does equate to more toys I don't know. The problems I've had on mine have been teething issues, at 68k I'd imagine these would all be resolved, so it shouldn't give you any problems. Keep an eye on the suspension though, as we did have a 1.6 owner on here who had an apparently unresolvable "pull to the left". Whole lot of car for not a whole lot of money... ![]() Rob. |

| So it looks like the only thing the SLX hasn't got over the Ambiente is the CD and multichanger. Which I replaced anyway...doh! ![]() Performance - 0-60 not a clue, top speed 121mph on GPS on a straight stretch of track. With a slight downhill slope... ![]() Economy - On motorways I've had 45mpg, if I take it easy around town around 35mpg. So normally I get about 30mpg. ![]() Oh, and you can fit an under-counter fridge in the boot without dropping the rear seats... ![]() Rob. |

| Was the SLXi trim available with the 1.6 engine? If I recall correctly the SLXi had the 1.8 20v, 2.0 and TDI (110 bhp) engines. The 1.6 was in the GLXi. Freakcrab the pedant. :-)

| Initially the 1.6 wasn't available with SLX trim, but it was introduced at a later date... At launch the 1.6 LX was the 75bhp unit, the GLX the 102bhp unit. I'd imagine the SLX will be the 102bhp unit. Rob. |

| Alex - You could install a microwave oven, fed off the battery and keep then you could cook from frozen, in the comfort of your estate. PS: you could have used my 170A welding cable to power the oven, and I've taken it back.. ![]()

| Let's put a poll into Skoda UK for a Octy camper van, or even an Octy winnebago

| SLX trim changed about oct 1999 a single cd was included from this date, as was the 2.0 8v and 150bhp 1.8T 20v petrol with full leather trim. The 1.8 20v non turbo was also dropped, replaced by the 2.0 8v unit. Electric Sun roof was omitted initially with the inclusion of climate control. |
