| Have been driving my brothers Audi S3 this week and i have to admit i'm really enjoying it,so much so that i'm considering changing the Octy for one in the not to distance future. was wondering what my fellow Briskodians views on this change would be as i know some of you on here have owned this vehicle or currently own one. i am prepared for some friendly abuse to even be considering the change but the driving experience seems to fit what i want out of a car a bit more than the Octy. ok my brothers is standard so dosen't feel as quick as mine at present but it just handles SOOOOOO well!!!! so what do you all think?????

| In my mind it comes down to the cost really. As you know, the engine is similar (with more potential), the 4x4 system is haldex like the Octavia 4x4 and the rest is normal Audi - good materials and build, safe handling, refined but not over-thrilling (which is not necessarily a bad thing!) I'm a big 4wd fan so can understand you liking it. |

| Umm S3 or OCty 4x4 or vRS....well if you get one of the later 225 base block (I think they had a later revision as per the TT's) you could do alot more to it's power thus making the 4x4 very very handy. The 4x4 is neat, allowing far more power to be applied whenever and wherever. However as a young Panrix would testify, during a day out in Wales, where he was easily ontop of me in the straights. If you sort a cars handling out and you gain more than few BHP on your following cars in the corners <waves to cool brake Panrix>. The s3 is nice, so as was said above, cost. I'd do it for a while, or an S4 or RS2...despite having got rid of my 4x4 Octy. Actualy re-reading your post it's handling that seems to have sold you to the idea.

| FWIW if I was spending Audi money again, I think I'd go for another A4 Quattro with the permanent 4wd system rather than the haldex from the S3. Very predictable. |

| well thanks for the constructive answers, was expecting a bit more abuse,LOL. and you are correct it is the "Handling" that has sold it to me. a friend at work has an S2 coupe that is running 300bhp and i went for a drive in that this evening, very impressive. That 5 cylinder block has so much grunt,i have decided that the magic number for me now is 300bhp or more so he advised to look into the S4 as that is easier to gain the magic 300bhp figure and more,330-350bhp is attainable,i'm getting excited just thinking about that figure!!!! any views on the S4????

| Yep, S4 when remapped is kin quick in a straight line. Bit nose heavy IMHO, can be a tad understeery and the brakes need work, IMHO. Would I have one? Hell yes! Great for cruising the motorways and plenty of punch when you need it. ![]()

| The S4 is a lovely car (althought I've heard some reports of gremlins with the new V8 version). Depending on how the Mk2 vRS turns out, I might be looking at a second hand S4, or maybe a V70 R in a couple of years time.

| A friend recently sold his S4 and it was hard work stopping myself from buying it off him, they are very nice and would choose one over an S3,try getting a test drive in a S4 that way you would be able to weigh up the pros and cons of each and hopefully come to a decision but either way you are getting a great car whichever you go for |

| am going to look at a couple of S4's this weekend so hopefully get a test drive. i'm liking the S4 idea more now due to it being a saloon and the obvious being the power attainable, that magic figure of 300+bhp is calling me!!!! will update this thread after i have had a drive. anybody want a Octy vRS silver,Jabba re-map,230bhp,boost controller,Bailey DV, its covered 28000miles already, reg 1st Sept '03!!!!!! just incase!!!!LOL..........

| I woudn't touch that high mile car What about and RS8, or are you not that flush with money !?!??!!Early S3s can have problems when out of warranty, so buy as late as possible. Very small boot in the S3, but I can still pack it with audio for you ![]() Andy
