Damaged Fabia SE

The wife had a rock hurled at her by a truck on the M62 the other day, and on investigation it has dented the bonnet twicel and left 3 nasty gouges in the pantwork. She was in tears when she saw the damage.
My amiable painter mate says he will paint and repar the bonnet for £60, which I think is good, but I have to supply the paint.
Trying to find solvent based Race Blue paint is proving practically impossible though, and I have been quoted £50 + VAT for half a litre of water based paint, and been told solvent based stuff is harder to get.
Bugger.
Anyone know of any suppliers in the W. Yorks area?

sorry to hear Graham, but at least it didn't go through the windscreen and cause an accident.

Probably still a 'reaction'.
She was lucky - could have put car off road etc just from the shock aspect alone. Let alone if the rock had come through the screen. Am always very very wary of those huge twin-wheeled 'construction site' lorries - have had full bricks hurled up at me (luckily evaded / was far enough back).

That's a real b*mmer

As if she doesn't have enough to put up with

Re: Damaged Fabia SE

Try halfords for the paint, they can custom mix the stuff you put in aerosol cans.

I'll try them tomorrow, cheers
I'm not sure about the aerosol can though would they just mix me some up?
My mate managed to get Silver for mine no problem, so it's a bit strange that he can't get blue.

What about Chips away. They did a good job on my Civic when I scratched the bumper of mine and totalled the wing of the car behind

Really, have you had some mixed?

I have amd have had nothing but great results from their custom mix paints. I was unable to get paint for my old mondeo anywhere except pay horrendus prices from Ford. Went to halfords who mixed me some paint, and the colour match was perfect, far better than anything I had tried before, it was impossible to tell where I had sprayed. Poor colour match is down to the person mixing the paint not being trained correctly and adding the incorrect amounts of the mix.

They need the paint code and year of manufacture of the car, because even though cars have been the same colour for years, during that time the paint shade may vary slightly. For example my 97 mondeo was "electric current red" metallic. During the short time they produced that colour there were about 20 variations of the same colour. If the person mixing the paint has the right info, then the match should be perfect, they use the same info the bodyshops use to mix their paints.

Not my experience - the match (metallic silver) was spot on

I had my bonnet resprayed (metallic red) a couple of months back, about £170 all in.

Apparently it's been illegal to manufacture the solvent stuff since the beginning of the year, and only places that are licenced to work on classic cars are allowed to use it (which is a bit strange as no-one is allowed to make it)

Re: Damaged Fabia SE

Big clue - it's not illegal to make it. Just to use on cars it wasn't used on originally, you know, like current and last gen Skodas.

Re: Damaged Fabia SE

Sorry to hear about your car, any VW approved bodyshop should be happy to mix it for you. Your Skoda dealer should be able to advise.

Re: Damaged Fabia SE

Skoda do spray cans - I guess from other posts these would have to be water based these days.

Anyway, here is a link to it - Å*koda Accessories

Its got a part number listed, so Im guessing a dealer should be able to find it on the system.
