| Today I dragged my friends to the local motor show so I could have a good old look at two particular cars that I am interested in. One of them I have only seen in photos and am pleased to say it was love at first sight when we finally met. ![]() I was straight with the dealer and said there is no way I am ordering new as I cannot justify that amount on a car. He then offered me the car for a whole day so I will be taking him up on it some time very soon. The car is the new A3 convertible and the demo is the 1.8T Sportline.I have investigated the engine choices on the Audi website and I am now asking the opinion of you lovely people as the engine I choose will be as a comparison to my Fabia VRS. So firstly, I love the way my car drives. I'm not sure if it's the torque of it being a diesel, or the fact that it's just a small nippy car but what I want is to still have that zipping around factor in the Audi. So, out of the choices (petrol and diesel) which one do you think is going to be the closest to the sort of drive I'm getting already? 1.8 TSFI 2.0 TSFI 1.9 TDI 2.0 TDI I thank you ![]()

| What is your annual mileage and where do you do your miles? Are you buying it on HP, PCP or contract hire?

| My guess would be that the 2.0TDI would drive in a similar fashion to the current 1.9TDI unit in your VRS. However I imagine that the 2.0TSFI would be faster. Don't know without looking at specs, though!

| I would say the 1.8TFSi if you want most power then obviously the 2.0TFSi but then you have to factor in insurance etc. Plus the 1.8TFSi will be better on fuel. I wouldnt touch a diesel at the moment. the cost of fuel for them is extortionate HTH Carl

| Or indeed the 1.9 TDi, but the 1.8 would probably be the one I would go for. Don't fancy your chances of finding a 2nd hand A3 convertable tho ![]()

| There are some on autotrader already but as I said to the dealer, the purpose of my visit was for a future purchase. I have looked again on the website and can disregard the 1.9TDI.

| What measurement is your inside leg? Does the car have a full size spare wheel? What is the Capital of Nepal? How many times in the average year do you plan to travel to Sodding Titbury? |

| It makes me go all funny when people use my real name ![]() ![]() I think it has to be aswell. Looking at the figures for the 0-60 is not a big issue but the amount of horses is quite a bit more than mine.

"if it's the torque of it being a diesel"& in the long run a diesel costs you less to run = Get the 2.0TDI the 1.9TDI won't give you the zippieness in this larger platformed vehicle... "if it's the fact that it's just a small nippy car" yet you still desire a convertible & can wait = Get an Audi A1 convertible with a 1.4TSI! Assuming you might still like to go with the A3 droptop. I suspect the 1.8TfSI would be your best bet. As already mentioned REVOing it may then make sense for you mainly for the torque gains. Based on some of the graphs they've been showing this engines characteristics aren't that different from your vRS's!!! Oh well not so short but hopefully sweet enough... | |
