| Fabia vRS Residual Prices. It seems to me that lots of vRS owners have enjoyed losing very little money on their cars. It was quite common to see year old cars selling for £11k, for which a new one costs a few quid more. The residuals have been absolutely rock solid for some time, but for some reason I think the bubble will soon burst.Quote:
Why has the vRS enjoyed such rock solid residuals? And what do you think the future holds? Either way I'm not bothered, I want my car to be worth peanuts when its 4 years old and has 80-100k miles on the clock so I can buy it from the lease company and run it into the ground. I anticipate paying £2500. Any thoughts? ![]()

| Re: Fabia vRS Residual Prices. Sounds good in theory, not sure in practice. I don't know why the residuals have been so strong - I reckon it's due to the dealers keeping them within the network and keeping prices high - unfortunately for used buyers I see this trend continuing - if your dealer has a 2.5 yr old at say 8K, would a private seller sell one at 3yrs for 5K? Hell no, they're going to sell for the most they can. As a result I predict perhaps a softening, but never a big drop. Volvo used to do the same (keeping most within the dealer network) and it kept their residuals rock-solid even on very old cars.

I was faced with either keeping the VRS and spending another £1500 or so on it over the next year for things like Leather Seats, sorting the suspension out etc... and not getting anything back on it (I knew in 2007 the residuals would be no where near what they are now for the reasons outlined in your post) or trade it in for a straight swap on an older car which had Leather Seats, sorted suspension, nice alloys, decent tuning potential and, most importantly, had done most of its depreciation. Hence why I am the owner of an 03 reg Saab 9-3 2.0t Vector Sports Saloon (not to everyones taste I know), and I love it. Best thing is for half the price of what I was going to spend on the Fabia (i.e. £700) I'm getting it mapped to 210bhp and that will be it - because its got everything else I want from a car as standard. | Re: Fabia vRS Residual Prices. I can see the prices droping as old model come out of warrenty and when the newier model comes out. Am I bothered? Not really chances are I will keep this until I really need to change it (i.e. family on way etc). Only issues I have is on the insurance front, this might change my plans if they become black listed (I know of one insurance company that has already done this) Either way I dont see them dropping too much in price!

| Re: Fabia vRS Residual Prices. when I first got mine I would see very few on the road. After about a year I was seeing them all over the place sometimes I would be in traffic and see at least two or three in the line in front of me and two or three parked in the supermarket etc (not the same ones) but I knew mine had to go when my girlfriend got one and I couldent face having his and hers black and silver outside my house when she comes round. lost just over a grand in a year and 10,000miles which I thought was ok. Got a mazda 6 sport 136turbo diesel now which I must say I really like, xenons, bose sound system, cruise etc and sticks to the road like mud to shovel. gf still has hers and think she will be keeping it but I can see the prices taking a bit of a hit. there are two outside a dealer near me and they have been there for a while now. when I wanted mine i couldent get one for love nor money. now it seems they are all over the place, well up here they are anyway. |
