How Much Do You Think It Is Worth?

Hello all,

Yes, I know that this is a Skoda and not a Subaru site but u guys (and girls of course) are so helpful I though I would as for some help.

I want to sell my Subaru Legacy but I do not know how much it is worth?

Here it goes:

Subaru Legacy Turbo estate (4WD) 2.0 Litre J-Reg. Charcoal (Black).
0-60 time of 6.9s as standard ahould be better with mods.

I bought it around 2 years ago with 94,000 miles on the clock with a Full Subaru Service History.

Head Gasket went due to radiator being full of rubbish. Radiator was replaced and Head Gasket with uprated Impreza STI version.

Clutch went...replaced with Impreza STI clutch and flywheel (standard one).

Tyres were useless replaced with Goodyear Eagle f1's on 16" Standard MY 2000 Impreza alloys (silver).

It has a sunroof but no aircon and all the window except the back one have tints.

Koni shock absorbers (Adjustable in terms of firming up NOT height nothing flash) and standard springs (NOT replaced).

PIAA headlamp and foglight (Yellow apparently better for fog) bulbs.

Totally resprayed. Not very well done.

Boost gauge

Lambda Link (tell you if car is fuelling well).

Full stainless steel Mongoose (Decat) Exhaust.

Uprated Panel filter (Green filter).

New MAF maybe fitted 2-3 months ago.

Iridium HKS spark plugs. Apparently better for a car running at higher boost (see next mod).

Superchip - Ups the boost to a max. of 1.2 bar.

Handsfree phone kit - Professionally fitted by Carphone warehouse. Voice activated dailing.

MOMO steering wheel - Comes standard.

Geometry set up for handling by TSL Motorsport, Nottingham.

New wipers and arm (front and back) when I bought the car.

Always used Subaru parts or better. Oil change done more often than every 3000 miles (Ask Robinsons Subaru of Rochdale how often I'm in there!). I use Millers fully synthetic 10W60. Even more often oil changes when I was on my Motor vehicle mechanic course NVQ last year!!!

Fuel always Optimax before that I use Super unleaded but I believe Optimax is better will Millers Octane Booster (Sometimes using two bottles).

I have had numerous parts changed and put right on this car. I was really enthusiastic about this car but my job situation has changed. The Insurance is bloody stupid and I am getting sick of every joey under the sun thinking that they can have it without paying for it (I live in one of those nasty innercity areas in Manchester hence stupid insurance, no drive, no garage). The following me in my car can get on my nerves and constantly being asked if I want to sell my car for £2.50 and a bag of chips! I need to save up for as house as I rent and am getting sick of it! Besides I want a change I fancy a Golf GTI maybe as a in between car until I can afford a decent car (Skoda 1.8T of course chipped an all!)

The two questions are:

1. How much do you think it is worth?
2. What alternative car can I get for a few grand as a in between car with a bit of performance but not too much (4WD would be ideal) that will not kill me on the Insurance? Must be 4 door (wife and kid) and solid.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried the Scoobynet Forums?

Look under the For Sale section - some legacies in there that have been modified...

Example ( link ) Legacy Turbo, 1992, mods - £2k ish.

Yes I've gotta say, even with all the service history, oil changes, suspension, wheel & brake upgrades, if the paint job lets it down you would be lucky to get decent money. £1500 tops. Sorry Aaquil.

Regarless of any mods, that mileage and body coupled with its age...I wouldnt give much over £800-£1000.

Aaquil

What happened to the 4x4 Octavia idea then ?!!

I'd go with Nick's comment about £1200 -1500.
If you are technically minded and have the old parts, I'd strip the non-standard bits off and flog them on Scoobynet first. If you trade in with the bits on, they will make no difference to what its worth over a standard one.

I am still looking into getting the Octavia just not at the moment. Change of job better for the blood pressure not better for the pocket!!! I need a house as well (my own one I mean). I will get one, one day. At the moment I need an in between car and the wife needs one as well!!! 'Money is too tight to mention...'

Anyone else with any ideas on value (the wrong word eh?) of my Legacy? Any suggestions for alternatives? I'm thinking of a Nissan Primera SRI. I've seen two:
1. 103,000 miles with full Nissan Service History. Immaculate (?), fleet car mostly motorway miles at around £1,800.
2. 78,000 miles with service history (full?). £2700.

What other cars do you guys suggest? Must be 4 door car with a liitle performance and no way as expensive to run as my Legacy (and to Insure)?

Thanks

Aaquil,

Is it a good runner?

Okay given what you have said previously about bits changed (I know your pain when it comes to selling) is it good for day to day use as it is now?

I do not care for paint finish; so long as it's intact and not rusting away.

Yes Colin, I think it is...but saying that my only other car before it was a Toyota Carina II. To be honest I will tell anyone every single fault, problem and niggle with the car I just want to show any potential owner that the car has been looked after and can be a good general car with some, serious and good performance. It does have some rust.. but again it is all relative my pass car was a J-reg as well which also had some rust, so what you think is a lot of rust someone else may not think so. People can come and test drive it from cold, take it away to get it checked out (with me of course!!!), whatever. See it for yourself. I have done my best to keep it long term but money is now an issue (esp. when it comes to Insurance over £1000 for me!!!).

Are you interested... come and see it and make me a reasonable offer.

Well, seeing as you mentioned Primeras..... The SRi is a great car, especiallly considering what you would pay for a 1998/1999 model. You get a VERY reliable car with a large boot and superb handling for next to nowt. In the reliability stakes, it makes my skoda look like a, well, Skoda! (/me ducks ). However, if you're looking at this car, go instead for the Primera GT - all the above benefits plus a little more power. Colin also had one of these IIRC.

So Si is the Primera GT better than the GTI? Any ideas where to look for one except the Autotrader?

Thanks

Aaquil. That's why I go on this website to ask questions rather than Scoobynet... people actually reply!!!
