| Hi All, My other (better) half is in the process of purchasing a used fabia. As part exchange we were going to trade in her previous car. Got a call from the dealer today saying that the HPI revealed that the car had been scrapped (a month after she bought it!). So it goes something like this, SWMBO HPI checks the car and there is nothing shown so she buys it. Apparently a month later it HPI is notified that it has been scrapped. 3 years later we come to sell it and find out it has been notified as scrapped! The car was bought from a otherwise thought to be reputable FORD dealer. Does anyone have any advice? Obviously till this is cleared up we won't be driving the car (as I guess technically it isn't insured). What a royal pain in the ****, since I've just sold mine and we have only this car to rely on, till the new octy arrives or we somehow manage to purchase the new fabia without trade-in in the mean time... Thanks as always in advance! Keoghan

| Re: HPI, car scrapped during ownership without a claim This could be a pretty messy situation if it isn't a mistake I'm assuming you've read - HPI Check – Used car history check guarantee I would say you may have a case with the Ford Dealer if they are still in business but it isn't going to be setled over night. Was t an approved used car?

| Briskodian | Re: HPI, car scrapped during ownership without a claim without checking this out for yourself you will not know. having HPI'd many cars its not uncommon for admin errors on chassis/vrn to translate into a crap report.. when pursued i would say i found about only 1 in 7 or 8 was a "genuine" write off. ring HPI or whichever "provider" is holding the info.

| Re: HPI, car scrapped during ownership without a claim Thanks folks, the car was an approved used and the dealer is still around (though they trade with a different name now). The dealer is looking into it and promises to call us back tomorrow. If he has no luck I'll take it up with HPI and the ford dealership. 1 in 8 a genuine write off! that's awful! Once again thanks for the quick replies! Keoghan

| Re: HPI, car scrapped during ownership without a claim All sorted, apparently a clerical error at HPI. Apparently very common, there is a person dedicated to dealing with these errors specifically!

So I'm guessing the only way to find out if the car you drive is down correctly is to pay for an HPI check on it, or is there an admin type line where you can find out? Chris

| Re: HPI, car scrapped during ownership without a claim I think you'd have to pay for the HPI check, there is a contact number but I'm not sure they'd give you the details over the phone as that'd be contrary to their business model ![]() Or get your friendly dealer to do it for you, or policeman!
