Re: Porsche to become owners of VW

The reason for doing this is new german legislation. The new rules are based around CO2 emissions, and german manufacturers need to have some low emissions vehicles in their lineup. If they dont, then they will be fined by the german government. Hence the stake that some german car makers have in other brands.

So they'll be treated as a single company with multiple brands , I suppose.

Makes sense

And VW have just bought the majority share in Scania (They were always a shareholder anyway) not sure if that links them into SAAB too now

SAAB and Scania are part of the same group who separated the business with SAAB continuing car manufacture and Scania going with the trucks, but they are still related, and As I said VW are a Shareholder, not outright owners

Heads-up NINE months ago:

http://briskoda.net/forums/general-c...orsches/81332/

SAAB-Scania split out in 1995 to become SAAB (cars) and Scania (trucks) and SAAB Aircraft.

So the SAAB (cars) adverts have as much to do with airplanes as they have to trucks. But GM persist to advertise tarted up Vectras as some sort of "Top Gun" derived supercar. (Note: there are not many front drive jet planes with dodgy handling)

Whereas they're actually more like the trucks (but less useful).

And Volvo trucks have a share in Scania--Volvo are related to Ford and Mazda-- In fact just about all manufacturers are related in some way. Just like folk in a rural Norfolk village

Re: Porsche to become owners of VW

German law (VolksWagen Law) prevents any non-german company from acquiring more than 10% stake in VW. EU doesn't like this law and wants it to be scrapped. So Porsche is pre-empting any potential foreign buyers. It also makes business sense.
