| Build me some ICE... Okay, ICE is a grey area for me... However I'm experimenting with a pc in the car driving various applications displayed on a touchpanel mounted in/on the dash. Thus far feeding a san remo blaupakunt HU on AUX all goes well, apart from the auxillary feed from the soundcard on the PC is not that strong. Or the auxilliary feed pick up in the HU is pants. The net result is I have the volume at 30-40 for loud music on say radio or cd, but have to push it to 60 for the AUX feed. This creates a massive issue if traffic comes on or I forget and turn to radio...not good nearly put it in the barriers the first time traffic cut in. I also have a small hum in the system when I connect the screen to the pc. This I understand could be solved by earthing or a capacitor on the powersupply. So build me ICE...I want to get this all working. So, is anybody willing to help me out with wiring/ doing the job/ selecting me a suitable HU/ speakers/ very very practical amp in the boot (bearing in mind my boot is often damp from camping/walking). To me the music is not that important, but of couse like most I do enjoy it. SWMBO however is a musican and appantly the sound in the octy is a good few marks below useless...so the sound needs to be improved, less distortion and more clarity in particular of the mid ranges? I have two infinity 650i's? On the shelf but will sell thse if not suitable. I had them in the 4x4 and it made some difference, but it was on stock HU. So there we go, cheque book in hand, willing to travel to a fitter who is willing to answer the odd question while I look in in ![]()

| Might be a good idea asking the lads on www.talkaudio.co.uk These people know their stuff. By the sounds of it you need a subless system like TIMVRS. If it was me I'd go for a set of infinity 6000cs in the front doors, keep your 6x9s and power the lot of a 4ch amp. Also when fitting the front speakers put a few layers of sound proofing on the door skin behind the speaker.

| Have tried two soundcards, well two machines, one is a JVC mini laptop the other is an EPIA built in. Will try the various links...and the line booster is a possibility I think as I'm bound on size, cards expansions and costs ![]() Edit: EEK just looked at price of that line feed booster...gulp...last resort now.

| Connect the aux in to the soundcard speaker output and use the o/s volume control to increase/decrease the output volume.

![]() Sorry. Tried this don't fear...short of getting one of the desktops out of my study and trying that I think it's either the HU or crappy integrated soundcards. Unless you happen to have a sanremo HU?

| Would be happy to help Colin all you need to do is ask Currently tryin to put the tv in the double din slot and stereo in climate control location then hiding the climate controls under the ashtray flap so it's hidden. Think this would solve your screen mount problems. We could try to put your pc output through my head unit as each source has a volume adjust so when you go from cd to radio they are the same volume. Would just need to make up some patch leads.

Is there a separate volume control in the menu settings for the AUX IN - some HUs (eg Clarion) have this feature for balancing the sound levels. Connecting all of the 0V grounds to one place will help with getting rid of hum. Sounds like an interesting project - hope your successful.

| Autoleads do a cheap 'line driver', part number is PC9-460. it will take a standard 1v olt peak to peak input and give a maximum of 4 volt peak to peak output. Or you could use a PC 1-602 which will convert speaker level output to RCA... Andy

| Dave, Yep use that site alot, very very usefull. Saturday met up with Manny at the AmD rolling day. We did a little test using his mp3 player and concluded that it is infact my HU that is useless. Strange as Manny's is also a bluespot jobbie. So Thumbs down to the san remo for aux feed... TFT was fine on the way home, it's most bizzare...a bizzare day indeed.

| Colin, if you're a member on talkaudio, you may want to PM stuthemong. He's gone down the mini epia pc in boot with usb touchscreen up front and it's really really good. I asked him the other day. The screen is xernarc. Although he's sorting out a decent power supply for it. An "Opus PSU" is what he's getting but apparently there's a 1-2 month lead time ![]() BTW, edited to say if you're in the reading area this weekend, there's a big ice meet. I'll be going along so if you have any questions, pass them on and I'll enquire (although stu won't be coming )

Not a member there, kind of doing it the hard way I guess. Xenarc, yes alternative to the the lilliput touchscreen I have. Opus PSU, can get one tomorrow. Opus PSU is the best I guess, but again size of case and price from good old Rapid means I'm using an ITPS and built in PSU of case (all 12v). Not in Reading and TBH I'd be confused there as I am at a flower show. Screen and pc are all working fine, just need to plumb it in next to an amp and speakers/hu now I know the HU is naff....just need to catch Andy when he's not plumbing other peoples cars ![]() Anybody know any good fibreglass/resin people?
