Default First Call Breakdown/Chris Knott

Hi

Anyone else bought First Call breakdown cover via Chris Knott?

I'm insured via CK and asked about breakdown cover as my AA sub was due for renewal last week. CK recommended First Call and I took the UK package at £54.50.

Reading an article in today's Sunday Times I see that the exact same cover is £42.50 as per First Call's website.

Why the difference of 28% Surely not commision! Anyone got a similar experience?

Was it just an advertisement, or did you go online and have a look? It could be that the advert says "From" £42.50 and that it rates on the age and type of car. You do tend to get a bigger discount if you buy online, but its usually only an extra 10-15%. If you've only just renewed the cover, then you're in the 14 day cooling off period where you should be able to get a full refund on the cover, as long as you haven't used it. Then go and take it out online.

Thanks for the thoughts!

My curiosity got the better of me and I phoned First Call. Apparently if you buy the policy through Chris Knott, cover for Europe is automatically added at a discount rate (even if you don't need the extra cover!) and the charge is £54.50

If you want cover for the UK only, then the charge is £42.50 thru First Call website. Oh well, I'll try and remember that for next year!
