| Briskodian | Just got a secondhand Octavia Tdi Glx, ony real issue is that i want to be able to plug the ipod in and am not convinced by the adapters, cassettes, transmitters etc. So i guess i need a new head unit, Does a walkthru guide exist? what should i be aware of, or should i just get someone else to do it? It can't be that hard can it? And for sensible money any recommended units to fit? |

| Re: new radio walkthru Fitting a replacement head unit to the octavia is dead easy ![]() The DIN size is standard, so any normal head unit will physically fit. VAGs even use standard ISO connectors on the back for connecting it up - there are two 8-way blocks; one for power and the other for speaker connections. The only gotcha is that the permanent and switched 12V feeds are swapped over. Most aftermarket head unit wiring looms have bullet connectors which allow you to swap over the red and yellow wires. In terms of which head unit to get, it depends on what you want. CD? MP3 playback from CDs? Ipod support? USB connection to a generic usb flash drive for mp3 playback? Anything around the £100 online will give you a good head unit. Generally, people stick to known makes such as Alpine, Pioneer, Blaupunkt, Kenwood, JVC, Sony etc. take a look on Car Audio Direct - The UK's leading car audio and stereo resource. for some ideas ![]()
