Default New sub

I just bought an JBL sub and I heard that you have to play it on low volume some
time to take the factory stiffness out of it.
Is this true or is it okey to blast right away when it is installed?

If it's true, how long time should I play it on low volume?

Nope, doesn't matter. As long as the system is set up properly with the correct gains you can play it as loud as you want straight from the box

that is true you can whack up to full volume straight away, but imho running in is advisable. My understadning is it would have more benfit on a sub, because running in improves low to mid frequency response in particular. Longer running in does not really give any tangible benefits.

This dicsussion over at AV forums is worth reading. you can see that even amongst audiophiles there are differences of opinion
'Running In' Period - AVForums

For me I think the key post there is...
"Any electromechanical device requires a period at the beginning of its lifespan to adjust to normal use. Wether that period is minutes and achieved in the factory, hours and achieved in the first week of use or months is what is debateable. As with any mechanical components, speakers do change over time and materials can deteriorate."

This from a specialist speaker manufacturer ...

Then again audiophiles will tell you all sorts of rubbish, like speaker cable makes a huge difference (the can of worms is free)

Have a look over on Talkaudio and you will get different views to that of so called audiophiles

speaker cable makes a difference

....but then there are a million and one variables to what you actually hear. In a car what with road noise, wind noise, air con, indicators, other traffic, mobile phones, SWMBO rabbiting in your left lug-hole etc. conditions for perfect audio are a million miles away
