| Re: Octy 2 MP3 adapter Links not working for me mate, what head unit is fitted to your Octy 2, Stream? if it is it should have the CD input. Take a look at our Stu's octy website, you will see the pin out diagrams for the HU's Octavia-vRS.com - MFD2 Install Guide |

| Re: Octy 2 MP3 adapter The 2x6 is the correct one. I have the MP3 version fitted to my MFD2 and it's not working 100% like Stu said. Sometimes the adapter activates and most of the time not. In Stream HU it worked everytime, but the folder change was very slow and the time display didn't work correctly. Also I had a sound distortion problem. It's a shame as in MFD2 the other problems are gone. Time display works, folder change is instant and there's no sound distortion to be heard. Only problem is that the unit doesn't activate itself like it should when I press the CDC button.

| Re: Octy 2 MP3 adapter sorry I should have said I have a Dec 05 Octy so the bog standard Stream (no MP3) HU. Is this compatible with this unit? I don't fancy having to buy a new car just to be able to plug in my MP3 :-) Not sure why but I also quite like the idea of not losing the use of the CD changer even though I have all my CDs on the MP3 player. cheers Domhnall |

I have the 2x6 pin version of Xcarlink which is the correct one if car has quadlock connector. The other version is for standard ISO connection and older radio models.

With the aux in port you would still need to change the tracks from the ipod or whatever is connected. With this you can use your HU or steering wheel controls to change songs or albums. Much better in my opinion.

| Re: Octy 2 MP3 adapter Easy, I think it was 6 torx screws. But you also have to unplug the passenger airbag disable switch. Remember to keep the keys out of the ignition otherwise you might get an airbag warning light.

| Re: Octy 2 MP3 adapter hmm well that was l;ess than successful. I got the HU out OK, got the xcar link connected and plugged the CD changer in to it. The music played through my MP3 player OK, but I couldn't use the controls on the HU or the steering wheel to control it, just the controls on the MP3 player. Then I tried to use the CD changer - no joy at all. The unit I received also had part of the case broken so I'm sending it back and asking them to tell me whether the behaviour I have dscribed is the way it's supposed to work. If it is, I want my money back as it' not what they advertise! thanks goodness I didn't haul the glovebox out! |

| There's no magazine to use in my changer, you just load CDs into the slot and it was fully loaded. I tried it initially without the CD changer connected just to se if the MP3 part would work but there was no sound at all. When I plugged the changer in to the xcarlink then I got MP3 sound coming through but no CD changer. And there was no way to control the music using the HU or steering wheel controls, I had to use the controls on my MP3 player. I don't see that I can have hooked anythign up wrongly, the leads only really fit one way :-( Still awaiting a response from the supplier though. |

Also the quadlock connector what is supplied with the xcarlink is C-R-A-P! I removed the blue connector plastic and just plugged the black part straight to the cd-changer port on the connector block. The problem with the blue thing is that the black connector housing inside it moves when you push it into it's place and it doesn't provide a very reliable connection.

I know what you mean about the connector, but I'm now confused about colours. The connector block on the car's wiring is blue. I disconnected that and plugged the xcarlink into the back of the HU. I then plugged the other end of the xcarlink into the blue connector block (having first removed the black cover as it was too small to fit over the blue connector). That seemed to fit the manual in terms of males going to femalee etc but now I'm doubting myself. Sorry to sound vague but I'm in a train from London to Edinburgh just now and the car's in Edinburgh so it's not that easy to refer to :-) | |

Yes, the 2nd earth is necessary. The unit doesn't power up properly if that's not connected. From what I understood from your explanation the quadlock connection should be ok ![]()

| Re: Octy 2 MP3 adapter well that didn't work, checked all the conenctions and the earthing and it still would not allow the changer to work and there was no way to use th HU controls at all. So it's gone back in the post! |
