Question remove grundig car stereo, help please ?

Hello,

I am new to this forum as I have just bought a Skoda octavia from 1999. I am planning to replace the car stereo with a blaupunkt Los Angeles as it seems that many people here are enjoying this stereo.

I have looked at many threads and I have identfied the adaptor that I need to use. However, sorry for the newby question, but I do not know what I need and how to remove the standard grundig stereo that is on it.

If anyone could let me know hos to do that, that would be great.
thank you

I have a set of Kenwood HU keys which work fine at removing the Grundig units (those two tiny vertical slots in the middle of the unit) Trouble is I sent a pair to Ross and I think I only have three individual ones left so can't really send another set. Ask any radio / ICE dealer for a pair and they shouldn't charge for them - especially if you buy a nice blingin unit from them!

Hi,

Thank you for your reply.
My HU actually 4 small holes, two at each end of the unit at the top and bottom. Do you think that the key you mention would work ?

Thanks

4 holes? Interesting. I thought they all had only two so one key in each hand would release the unit?

I think perhaps there's two holes specifically for removing the HU and two others for "something else" The release holes are about 1mm wide and about 12mm high (ish)

I think I was not too good at expressing myself.
You can have a look at the picture at the following address:
http://www.grundig-car-intermedia.co...ds/set_rds.htm

as you can see the 4 holes I am talking about. Maybe this is not the way to release the stereo though.

For the Grundig unit there are 4 holes in total....or....2 pairs of 2 holes.

Should be at either end of the HU.

You should have actually got the keys from the dealers...if not check your glovebox.

If you don't have any go to your dealer...they should do it free of charge.

Failing this go to Halfords they should have a key for this.......I think these are the generic old style keys.

Is this the point when all the "dodgy" suggestions come in and the moderators are given some work to do? I'll keep my gob shut then!

I've just dug out the box that my Blaupunkt Daytona came in and the unit is supplied with two keys that sound the same as what you need to remove the Grundig. The prongs are about an inch and a half apart. It would seem that the HU you are thinking of buying comes with the tools you need. Result! PM me if you need more info.
