Question Removing stock HU

I have the standard HU in my Fabia vRS that I'm trying to get out & I just want to check I'm not been too thick here.

I've taken off the blanking plates down each side of the radio & got myself a set of radio removal keys for European cars, it lists Audi's & VW's on the box. However they are just to big to go into the slots under the memory buttons on my HU.

I'm I trying in the wrong place or do I just have the wrong tool for the job?

Any help much appreciated.

Re: Removing stock HU

You need something thin to go into those slots. I have the proper tools but others have managed with cut up loyalty cars or similar. I cringe to say it but even a hacksaw blade has been used.

Re: Removing stock HU

Yeah I have read that on here about the hacksaw blades, mine must be larger than normal because when I look at the holes they don't look tall enough. Thats the problem with these keys I have they go in width wise it just the height but that stops them dead.

You couldn't post me a pic of what you have so I can see how far out mine are?

Re: Removing stock HU

In the end I got the local Skoda garage to order me some at Ł3, went to pick them up & they couldn't find them so gave me a set for free from one the machines sets. :-)

Took a lot of force though to get it out even with the right tools, I now know why no one trys to nick Skoda radio's, just to much hard work!

Re: Removing stock HU

I'll admit I'm tone deaf here & now but I think the standard head unit is pritty good. It plays cds & you get radio.

Anyway HU is staying in just need to move it to the lower slot so I can get my new toy installed in the top one.
