Sat Nav VAG OEM

Been looking on ebay at oem vag sat nav stuff. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...772143704&rd=1

Just out of interest how easy/hard would it be to install one of these. Would it be a simple plug n play? Would Vag-com be needed? Where about do you put the GPS thingy?

Thanks in advanced

It's plug and play in the Octavia so can't see the fabia been much different.

GPS aerial is magnetic and goes behind the dash on the metal tubular rail either behind the glovebox or clocks.

Great bit of kit.

Is a new centre console required or is it simply a case of removing the tray beneath the stereo in order to fit one of these?

In the Octavia you just remove the standard stereo and the plastic tray. Slots straight in then, helps to take the glovebox off so the wiring can be fed through easily from behind.

You just enter it the first time you turn it on after installing.

Not a bad price, I paid roughly the same for a IPAQ PDA with TomTom3 and bluetooth GPS about a year ago. I'd much rather have an integrated system though!

Dave.

Are there any other connections to make other than GPS antenna and ISO plugs?

Looking at another seller's website http://www.satnavsystems.com there is mention of a CAN-BUS interface which gives speed pulse, ignition, illumination and reverse signal outputs, for £129

Just wondering if this is actually needed and if so where it connects to in the car.

James

You need a plug and play wiring loom but that comes in the kit from the seller of the first auction.

BTW satnavsystems and that first seller are the same person.

Exclamation It does look good...

I bought a DX nav unit thing on Saturday. The owner wrote off his Supurb and thats where this came from. It has an internal antenna, and a wiring loom that is connected to the left and right ABS sensors and reversing switch in the main loom by the passengers left foot. It also came with another loom for a Telephone mute switch, and some other stuff (I see a cable labeled 'C-bus') that apparantly I don't have to connect anywhere. According to him, the 2004 map disc should still be inside.

I put it in without the looms and bits and pieces to check it out and make sure its ok... I got this far:

1. It looks great
2. It sounds better than the Symphony
3. Its a quality bit of kit, great and easy to use (for audio)

BUT... the map disc is not in there. Hmm. I put in some other disc and it doesn't take it. I lift the lid off and find the top part of the spindle obstructing the path of the disc - move it a little and it does swallow the disc. When it is in there it makes horrible slurping noises as it doesn't spin properly.

As much as I'd like to take it apart and try to fix it - I can't really risk it. I took it back to the guy who was selling it, showed him the issues it had and got my money back (he was alright about it). I think the accident shock killed the drive.

I'd love another one, but only at the right price. Tomtom Go is good as well, but again I'm in no rush. I can read maps! Its just that I like my gadgets really.

Ah well.

Please say you only have to take radio and tray out to put this in and all the wiring is already there cause iv just ordered one of these!

Is it ljust a matter of tasking wiring off symphony and plugging it in the back of this and just add the aerial??

No, thats not the case.

You will need to remove the glovebox, the trim under the glovebox, the trim in front of the passenger door, run the loom for ABS and Reverse over from the HU to the left of the car and tap into the cables in the main loom there.

And also wire up the GPS antenna onto the dash...

This is what I have been told - I didn't get a chance to find out for myself! I don't know if a "plug and play" loom is going to help anything - none of the wiring for the sensors is there already, and you will need it.

Can someone who has installed this elaborate? I'd like to know for sure. Same with installing a changer - how hard is it to install all the wiring and mount the bracket under the seat?

When you say tap in do you just plug in? or is it case of cutting wires?
