| Uk 2000 Octavia GLXi 2.0 hatch seems to be missing something. Just playing with the stereo settings "Skoda Audio 201" system. Moving sound backwards makes it disappear completley. When positioned full front, I'm running maximum bass but can't hear any change and when I alter the treble there doesn't apear to be any difference. It says CD on the HU, so I assumed that it would have a changer connector arround the boot. No sign of anything under the carpets. Also, I appear to missing a few speakers. I seem to only have front door speakers. Looks like the rear speakers and the wiring are abscent. Where are the front tweeters anyway, I want to check where they are supposed to be and what I have instead. For listening the Radio 2 it is barely adequate. But the plan is, within the next 6 months I'm going to fit a Car PC to enjoy my MP3 collection, and want something that sounds half decent. |

Front tweeters are usually found behind the wingmirror - there should be a black triangle of plastic at the front of the front windows, which just pulls off to reveal the tweeter. And no, you won't have rear speakers, and if there are no rear speakers then there won't be any wiring for it. Not sure on the changer - the cable for this usually runs down the passenger side under the plastic trim beneath the doors (under which the carpet tucks). Not sure about the treble/bass control...would've thought this would be adjusted by the headunit so should alter accordingly - unless the speakers just aren't capable of reproducing the adjusted sound! First point would be that if the adjustment isn't working that would only be done in the head unit, so either the speakers can't cope (as rob said) or it isn't working. If you crank the bass right up then the speakers should at least distort if it is working. Wiring in rear speakers is pretty easy in most cars. Ditto for a CD changer. It might be worth your while putting in new speakers front and rear and a suitable head unit if you are not happy with what you have. You should be able to do reasonable front and rear speakers for about £80-100 total and a good head unit for £150-200 and Changer for £100, eg whole install for under £350-400 including changer. If you pic a head unit with an aux in you will be able to put the PC directly into that and probably forego the changer for now. As a tip I would say visit richer sounds or maplin or similar and but some flat speaker cable such as this: http://www.richersounds.com/showprod...=GALE-XL160-21 That is bi-wire cable with each strand the same size so you can run both speakers along one run if doing parcel shelf install. Otherwise you can split it down the middle and have two runs on into each door. For a parcel shelf install lift the trim on the passenger side and run all 4 wires from the head unit under the carpet and rear seats into the boot, terminate it with a suitable connector such as this: http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?...22434&doy=26m4 and then put the trim etc back. Mount the speakers into the shelf, I suggest bracking the shelf with a small piece of mdf under the shelf between and around the speakers, but thats up to you. Then wire the speakers to the other end of the connector and you can easily remove the shelf still. To do this to the doors instead of the shelf run the split cable in a similar fashion down each side of the car to the pillar by the seat belt and run the cable through the rubber tube into the door You could re-run the fronts with decent cable at the same time if you wanted. If your putting a changer in the boot then you could wire this in and then terminate all of the connections at the head unit end into the iso connector. Only other comment is to make sure the after market head unit doesn't cause problems with one of the diagnostic lines with 12v. You just need to disconnect the right wire and to make sure that the permanant power and ignition power are in the right order. Hope thats helpful and sorry if it's just repeating stuff you know already ![]() |
