| Briskodian | Hi, i've owned my fabia for three years now, I love it, but have had to spend alot of money on it over the last 12 months for various reasons. I had the pre-cat lamda probe replaced yesterday and today my car has consumed an unsually vast amount of fuel - is it possible that the two are linked???? When I started my journey the 'available' mileage was 135 and when i arrived back home, it had gone down to 60miles - I only did a round trip of 37 miles!!! Paranoid that I'm being ripped off by my dealership. Somebody please help me.. |

| Re: Helloooooo.... Lurve my Fabia, but it's costing me too much!! Hi Blossom, Welcome to Briskoda What kind of Fabia have you got? Pop the engine size/spec down and see if anyone can help. Don't suppose you've had your air con on today have you? That's just my first thought, but that could be contributing to the vast difference in fuel economy. There will be more technical answers to follow I'm sure!

| Re: Helloooooo.... Lurve my Fabia, but it's costing me too much!! Hello Blossom, Why was the Lambda probe replaced? Was it using too much fuel before hand? If it was fitted incorrectly or the probe is faulty, it will run rich.

| Briskodian | Re: Helloooooo.... Lurve my Fabia, but it's costing me too much!! Hi Black Magic I didn't have a fuel consumption problem before today.... I took the car in a couple of weeks ago because my engine management light had come on. The car was put on the diagnostic computer, but no fault was identified. The light was reset, but came back on within a day. I booked the car in for a thorough investigation and it was then that I was told about the lambda probe - I hadn't really noticed anything wrong with the car other than the EML being on.... Feeling a little frustrated......

| Re: Helloooooo.... Lurve my Fabia, but it's costing me too much!! Welcome to Briskoda. I wouldn't read too much into the trip computer fuel readings. Brim the tank, record the mileage, brim again when nearly empty then calculate actual fuel consumption. Zero Trip 2 at the start of the exercise and check the overall fuel comsumption figure recorded against the actual fuel consumption.

| Re: Helloooooo.... Lurve my Fabia, but it's costing me too much!! Those 'distance to go' readings are only a guide and are calculated dynamically based on your current consumption so if you were for instance doing a steady speed on a motorway for a fair few miles and your consumption was reasonable it would be reflected in the 'distance to go' however, stuck in traffic and doing 20 or so to the gallon will have the reverse affect.

I used to have the same model and engine size too. A full tank of fuel usually gave me a range of about 420-430 miles on average, this being a mixture of motorway and country road driving, with an average mpg of around 42. If you usually drive in stop/start traffic, then fuel consumption is going to rise.

| Briskodian | Re: Helloooooo.... Lurve my Fabia, but it's costing me too much!! Hiya, it's me again, Have taken into consideration what everyone has said, but after driving the car again today, I'm convinced there's a problem. I can actually see the fuel gauge lever moving whilst I'm driving!!! Am now on the red, so will fill up the tank tomorrow go about my usual business and take things from there. I have a feeling though, i could be visiting my Skoda garage very very soon. Have a good night....

| Re: Helloooooo.... Lurve my Fabia, but it's costing me too much!! Hiya there Flower. I'd agree with everyone else that if the Llambda probe is wrong you could be running rich, which is bad news for engine life if you let it persist, as well as for fuel consumption. |
