Default Hi!

Yesterday I became the proud owner of a brand new Furby VRS in silver with xenons, cruise, sunroof and plenty of diesel smoke! I'm moving over to diesel from a nissan 200SX turbo with the best part of 300 horses, so... can anybody tell me how long I should give the new car before driving it like I normally drive?

The dealer reckoned 1500km using less than 3/4 of the power then it would be OK to drive hard. This sounds like a very short running in period, what do you reckon?

Also, is it difficult to change the main beam bulbs, I had a quick gander but it looks like you'd have to remove the lamp units to get to the bulbs, is this right?

Cheers

Distance sounds about right to me, also the engine will loosen as the miles go on, even with 15000 kms the engine will still be improving.

Cheers for the welcome

By the way, is it OK to put slick 50 in this engine, and how many miles should I put on it first?

Welcome to Briskoda! The PD engine in the Furbie vRS needs the right oil - a spec VW 505 01 one which isn't exactly cheap - designed to cope with the very high pressure exerted on the camshaft drive by the injection pump fingers. I would strongly advise against putting any additives in that oil, not least to preserve the warranty on your engine.

Fair enough, save my pennies and my warranty!

Once the run in period's gone I'm very tempted to put a green filter and the seat air scoop on though... from the looks of things it'd take a very hawk-eyed grease monkey to spot the wrong sized VAG-group pipes on there and make a fuss about it....

Can I expect the MPG to improve as the engine frees up a bit? So far I'm averaging about over about 120 miles of mostly motorway driving, and the majority of that was constant 70-80 mph with the cruise set, would have liked to think I'd have been averaging nearer 50 or am I being too optimistic?

Cheers
