| Briskodian | Hello Toni Balloni on your screen. I've just joined this forum. I'm an Octavia 1.8t 4x4 driver. I love the car, it's four years old with 42k on the clock. I recieved a letter from one Skidder dealer telling me the Skoda recomend the changing of the cam belt at 4 years or 60k. Is this a cunning plot to drum up biz do you think? I know it's foolish to risc blowing the car up for the sake of the belt however, 40k is a major service and changing the Cam belt ads another three hundred + to the job and my overdraft says no... The price I've been quoted is £220 plus bits for the service and about £320 for the cam. (I can't remember if that is plus bits ???) Thats from Preston Motors in Forrest Gate. If anyone has views on the above to ease my troubled mind I'd be most grateful. By the way I live in central London and in four years I've never seen another 1.8t 4x4 estate on the road!!! they can't be that rare!! I've seen a few vRS's and I'll bet they are a great car to drive if you don't mind points on the license. I went for the 4x4 because I do quite a few miles on unmade / gravel roads when I leave the city and it feels very safe in the winter or bad wheather but in town it's just about ready to get out of 3rd when you reach 30 so not suitable for inner London realy. It's great on the motoraway so 2 out of 3 requirements is not bad. I soppose the big disapointment is that I've kept it too long now that the warrantee has expired and it's problebly worth about £5k or less. It's too good a car to give away for that price. I shan't winge on any longer Happy Motoring Toni Balloni. |

| Re: new guy conserned about cam belt Hello and Welcome ![]() Is that cambelt change quote from your friendly Skoda Stealer? If i was you i would get the belt changed but i'm sure you could get it done cheaper somewhere else,an independant maybe. If your ever out Rochester Way check out Impossible Performance,Mike is very knowledgable and very reasonable. I live in Essex near Stansted Airport and i take my car down there to be serviced. My Octy vRS is 3yrs 4 months old and has 108K miles on the clock,is re-mapped with various other modifications and is converted to Dual Fuel(LPG)and its been fantastic. Have fun on the forum.
