| Briskodian | Hi MY name is Doug although my screen name is Stella as Doug had already been taken. I have a fault with the remote locking, about once in twenty times it works, at other times I have to use the key. I've changed the battery in the key, but to no avail, can anyone tell me what the tickover speed should be, it'e a 1.9 turbo diesel octavia estate 2001. It ticks over at 2000 rpm, and this seems fast to me, although MPG is very good. Alltogether I'm very pleased with the car, it seems well built, and goes well. Thanks Doug (Stella) |

| Re: New member Hello Doug. Welcome to the site Try posting your question in the the Octavia section for a better chance of a response. However, 2k idle speed is far far too high, somewhere around 900 - 1000 sounds about right - think its in the owners manual somewhere |

Welcome ![]() It sounds like the remote unit could be broken which is probably going to be a main dealer part? Tick over 2000 seems high and I would have thought 800-900 would be correct! Where are you based? There maybe a local specialist near you ![]()

| Re: New member There are 6 different diesel engine variants fitted to the 2001 Octavia. What is the engine code (eg ATD) for your car?

| Re: New member Hiya. Tick-over on the SDi, TDi90 and TDi110 should be about 850 to 900 (based on several examples). Wrt the central locking issue, have you tried the other key? I think it's either the transmitter or the receiver, and this would tell us whether it's the key transmitter or the car receiver that's faulty. |

| Briskodian | Re: New member Thanks, Although I'm English I live in Spain,so asking help here is a bit difficult for me, I guess I'll have to live without the remote locking, but I need to get the tickover sorted out. Incidentally the manual is in Spanish, which is a bit of a bummer. Thanks very much for your help. Doug |

| Briskodian | Re: New member Hi Thanks for your time, I've tried both keys and it's the same with both, about 1 in 20 times it works. Incidentally you can tell if a key is transmitting by putting it next to the aerial of a portable radio on MW not tuned in to any stations, if it is working you will hear the bleeps on the radio, I used to be a T/V tech, and it was a trick we used to test T/V remotes. Of course this wont tell you if it is coded right. Thanks for your help Doug |

| Re: New member If the coding is wrong, it won't work at all, and I'm not sure the immobiliser would come off and let you start the engine. So I'm pretty sure it's the remote receiver that's at fault now. If you want to double-check, I'm pretty sure the "how to synchronise a key" instructions have been posted before, as has the part number for an English language manual. |
