| Hi I'm new to my Skoda - collected my X-reg Fabia this morning, but it has no spare key. The local dealer has quoted £96 for the key with transponder inside for alarm/immobiliser - does anyone have any ideas on how I can get one cheaper than this? Many thanks. |

| Welcome to the site ![]() There are a couple of members who may or may not be able to help you out with a legit key for - probably - less than £96. I'm sure they'll pop up and offer their help if they're able to...

| There is a lock smith shop in Belfast that will copy a car key and can also for £30 produce a key which replicates the coding in the original. Had a copy of my first Felicia's key made this way when one of the originals got bent. |

| You will need the immobiliser code number to add a key or a locksmith with an AD100 code reader and programmer. If you do have the immobiliser code then someone local with a VAG-com can program a key for you after a blank has been cut. Other than that you can now only get the keys done by the dealer as VAG group dealers can no longer obtain the immobiliser codes. in SKC format The dealer now has to plug the car into their VW5051 machine and the code is sent directly from Milton Keynes over an ISDN link, they stopped giving out SKC numbers from October 2004. This is a bone of contention on other forums, and some are complaining to the european commission. Here is a link to the AD100 site which details the equipment which can read the code. http://www.advanced-diagnostics.co.uk/ Dougal Last edited by Dougal; 03-11-2004 at 15:19. |

| VW/Audi have changed thier security codes over to the ASDN link as Dougal mentioned. Skoda are still running the older system and the dealer needs to email Skoda to obtain the immobilizer code. Also another point worth making is all keys need to be coded at the same time with VAS 5051 or they wont all work. Was the price quoted including coding the key in? If so then its not that far off by the time the car has been through the workshop and youve paid labour.

| I would ask them nicely, if seeing as you have just bought the car from them and how it has a key missing , they can do it for you gratis or at a "thankyou for buying from us" price. Never hurts to ask....perhaps ask the saleman who sold it to you.

| Really any car bought from a dealer should have a spare key with it. It comes with one from the factory, so you gotta ask your self where is the other one?
